I know my kids plan on returning to live here. Of course they haven't priced real estate or seen the property tax bills yet.

I was on the 8th grade trip to Washington a few years ago and our table at dinner was kind of the catch-all table for the adults who didn't know many of the other parents. (Nerd table.) I knew almost everyone, (lead nerd,) and we were all laughing and cutting up, very much like a high school cafeteria table. One of the other dad's was not originally from this area and he was sitting and listening to the stories with a kind of an odd smile on his face. When he could get a word in edgewise he said, without meaning to be offensive, that Ft. Thomas was "the most inbred little town" he'd ever seen. His wife was from here and talked him into coming back to raise the family here. "No one ever leaves, and when they do, they come back!" He was quite incredulous. I tried to explain to him that this whole area is like that, but had to admit that in Ft. Thomas it's very pronounced.

(BTW, none of us were offended. I think we all realized that it was a very astute observation.)

I hated the end of the tear away jersey era. Belfry was not the only team to ever use them. Mayfield used tear aways for their backs durning the late 70's. Mayfield's were not home made though

No offense taken whatsoever. And I agree it is one of the great things about Ft. T. But what is also neat in my opinion, is the fact that those old time Ft. Thomas folks welcome newcomers into town very warmly. Of course it helps if they have sons who play football.:laugh:

Was the final score 14-6 or 14-8? According to some information I have that I used for www.highlands-bluebirds.com, the final was 14-8. Was it actually 14-6???

Wouldn't you know it, the newspaper got the score wrong too, lol, but he tells me it was actually 14-8.

This is very accurate. The HHS coach came over the last time with the refs as well. He was begging Roddy to go ahead and come out....it was like Roddy was screwing up their whole plan....and he was...a remarkable plan that played out just like he had drawn it up. We were all sitting around the locker room without shoulder pads and cleats...when the HHS coach walked in the gym with the refs you could have knocked him over with a feather...we were chilled out about as much as you could be. Roddy never allowed us to talk much...we rode the entire trip to HHS, (which was about 5

 

I doubt anyone was begging. Belfry's coach at that time sounds like an elderly woman not getting her way. When you go to play somewhere its kind of the classing thing to go along with the schedule.
