What schools refuse to play other schools?

Featured Replies

Boyle Co. and Lincoln Co. does not play each other,I don't know why,if for some reason it's a refuser of one team or the other or not.But they should be playing,I would think this would be good for both teams, and only a few miles apart.

One would think that now French is there, LC and BC would play. Surely French would know what they didn't play since he has been at both schools in back to back years.

I have never heard this or gotten that impression. However, Mayfield used to play them every year and they are no longer on our schedule. I am quite certain Mayfield isn't avoiding Hoptown, but I am clueless as to why they don't play anymore.....too bad, there have been some freakin great games between these two....most notably 1995.....this game truely fueled my fire and passion for football.

Mayfield used to have trouble scheduling regional teams....we played Belleville Althoff, Ill, Milan, TN, and Trousdale Co, TN in my day.....but things have changed as of late....it seems as if regional teams are licking their chops now-a-days to get a crack at Mayfield....Calloway NEVER used to play mayfield when Stonechipher(sp?) was there....Im sure they are glad their new coach did, they would have missed out on that sweet win last year :p

Coach Joe said that both coaches worked their butts off trying to get a game where both had a free week but couldn't. Neither team was trying to get out of playing each other.

There are numerous teams in Western Ky that will not play Hopkinsville, for a variety of reasons...

I can't say why Fort Campbell and Hopkinsville don't play in football, but I would like to see them begin a series with each other. They play each other in about every other sport.

Jay Cobb told me a few years ago the reason SHS won't play PC and SW in the same season was because it always left the Jumpers too beat up for the district season after having to play the two bigger schools in short order just before going into district play.

I have heard that before, personally, it's a hard pill to swallow, especially when Somerset petitioned to play up (Bigger Schools) one class.

2006 Somerset played 3A Southwestern, 3A Franklin Co and 3A Warren East but not 3A Pulaski.

2005 Somerset played 3A Warren East and 3A Pulaski not 3A Southwestern

2004 Somerset played a couple of 2A's and Pulaski

2003 Somerset a couple of 2A's and SW

2002 Somerset played vs 3 3A schools and 2 2A schools out of dist.

(That was the last time the Jumpers played both schools losing to SW and beating PC)

Bottom Line is that fans want to see all 3 schools compete against each other and there is not a single valid argument as to why they don't.

I hope it happens soon.

I am saying this is a fantastic rivalry! That is why these games should be played every year. Everyone wins. The schools get a huge payday, & the fans get to see some great football from our local schools. We are very fortunate to have 3 very good football schools in our community. It's a shame we can't get past all the egos & excuses from all sides & play some football.

I'll bet if we asked the kids what they would like to do..............

Thanks for the information you saved me some time. This only enforces my opinion that Somerset does not shy away from competition like many say they do. A small 1A school at the time playing much larger schools.:thumb:

Boyle dropped the Pats the 2nd year or so of Chuck Smith. At the time the 2 programs were in opposite ends. When Boyle moved to AAA they had to play in the District and did. By then the ends had flipped between the two programs. Right now both programs are closer to even than they've been in a while.

NCC will not play Highlands..:irked::irked:

You mean Bob Schneider won't play Dale Mueller. The players would love it.

Is this Bob's last year????

I always here $$$$ being mentioned when talking about scheduling issues.

I know it cost more money to drive 2 - 3 hours away for a game BUT ITS WORTH IT!

If Belfry could get good quality matchups with the likes of Lexington Lafeyette/Dunbar, etc, but aren't because of travel expenses - I officially volunteer $20 to offset that cost. My dad will throw in another $20 and I'll get my grandfather to toss in $20 as well. I bet EKU and his family would do the same.

I think the Belfry program is well funded, but IF travel expenses REALLY are a limitation on our schedule - the adminstration just has to explicitly say so and the fan base will step up to the plate.

Is this Bob's last year????

Bob's last year was 1974....he just hasn't left yet!! (LOL)

Now that's funny!

Ram: I agree that the Raceland game has become a good local rivalry game – lots of press and interest and a big gate. The Raceland program certainly deserves respect. But, like you, I don’t think the contract will be renewed. It’s sad, but that’s what I think will happen.

Graybeard, I guess we were both wrong, I was told by someone that the Raceland/Ashland game has been renewed with a two year contract. I'm glad, surprised, but glad.

You are correct, In that SHS does not shy away from some bigger schools, but they do shy away from PC and SW every other year and they always get to play them on there home field when they do play.

So, my question is why does Somerset refuse to play SW and PC in the same year. The best scenario is that SHS travels to whichever school they don't play in the Correll, but it is not going to happen untill something changes. And that is a sad situation, becuase I think it would be great to see those games played.
