What schools refuse to play other schools?

Why did the Campbell County-Highlands series end? With the improvement of the CCHS program, maybe they will "step-up" again.

I really don't want them back on the schedule.

I'm one of the rare Raceland fans who thinks its time for them to come to Ram Stadium. But a lot of Raceland fans don't mind going to Putnam every year and look forward to it. I can understand that but at some point I think it becomes disrespectful to at least not offer to come to Raceland once.

Given the size difference in the two stadiums I can see giving Ashland 2 straight home games, but get them to come down to Raceland at least once every third season. They've been playing each other now almost yearly since Bill Tom was at Raceland and you would think Ashland would WANT to come down US 23 just out of the mutual respect that seems exist between the two schools. But if Raceland doesn't press the issue they will continue to just let the Rams come to Ashland until someone says something.

All that said I suppose if they want the Rams to keep coming to their field and beating them then I shouldn't complain. :p

Does Ashland split the gate and concessions with Raceland 50/50?

Although it doesn’t specifically address not wanting to play a certain school, Lone Oak’s scheduling doesn’t seem to include much competition for a team that made it to the state championship last year. They don’t play a single 5A or 6A team, even though there are several in West Kentucky, and the only 4A teams they play are in their district. Half of their schedule is two or more classes below them and none of the teams traditionally make it deep into the playoffs. The one Tennessee school they play was 1-9 last year, so my question is are they padding the schedule for another undefeated or one loss year?

NCC will not play Highlands..:irked::irked:

Do we know if Dale has approached Schneider about starting this back up? I don't know, so I'm asking. If I'm NewCath, why would I play Highlands? The recent success NewCath has had has been parlayed by playing an already challenging schedule. How would adding Highlands benefit either team? This isn't about what the fans want to see, this is about what the coaches think is best for their teams.

...Belfry approached Ashland for a Home and Home and had to settle for an Away and Nothing....

Belfry and Ashland both traditionally play Ironton, OH. A few years back (2006 I think) Ironton went into a new district creating scheduling conflicts with both Belfry and Ashland – not playing either school that year. Ashland and Belfry solved that problem by playing each other. It was a one year deal with Ironton back on both school’s schedule the following year. It seems to me that both Belfry and Ashland preferred to play Ironton.

This is the second year of a contract cycle ... that's why they are playing the same schedule.

2006 isn't the only year Belfry has approached and/or played Ashland...

Belfry has came to Ashland in '98, '01, and '06

Ashland has been approached by numerous schools for home and home series, some with much more prominent recent successes, only to be told that they will either:

A) Only do a two year contract if BOTH games are at Ashland

B) They will only do a one year contract with the game AT Ashland

Pikeville is playing Ashland for the second consecutive season at Putnam this season. Belfry approached Ashland for a Home and Home and had to settle for an Away and Nothing. The Raceland fans also enjoy their annual visit to Putnam which they will open the season off with... despite defeating the Tomcats in two straight season's they will make yet another visit to Putnam.

...and since we are on the topic of teams not playing other teams... after Ashland's rare Home and Home with Pburg wound up featuring a Pburg romp... the Tomcats have blacklisted the Blackcats.

Schools who do this pay out a $$$ amount to visiting team, usually anywhere from $1000 to $5000. If a school agrees to go play only 1 year or 2 years in a row without getting $$$$ its there own fault.

It was a 1 year deal, that is true, however, Ashland will not even consider traveling to Belfry and the only way to make that 1 game happen was to play it at Putnam.

Ironton hasn't been back on Belfry's schedule, although you are probably right, Belfry would likely prefer to have them back.

$$$ is the least of Belfry's worries when you can average 3500-4000 fans per home game throughout a season that usually goes 13-15 games long. I am pretty sure Haywood is much more concerned about getting the best game possible for his players and community.

Somerset refuses to play both Pulaski and Southwestern in the same year. They will play one or the other each year in the Ray Correll Bowl which means they always get to play on their home field.

Actually Buck, this will more than likely be the last year you see the County teams in the Ray Correll Bowl. With Somerset's refusal to play both teams in a given season, the county schools have not renewed the contract. It is a shame, w/ Somerset's deep tradition & the $$$ it would generate, the fans around here are going to miss out on 2 exciting games. With fuel prices the way they are & teams trying to not travel it seems like a slam dunk to play both schools the same year. 2 games without leaving town, & the biggest gate of the year when you get SW or PC @ home. Oh well, lets hope these games actually do take place in the future.

I see. Ashland got Ironton back on the schedule, I just assumed that Belfry did too. The Ashland/Ironton game draws our biggest crowd of the year.

Although Belfry has a great football tradition - I think Ashland's path to success in our new 5A class leads us west and north. If we're to be competitive in 5A we need to play more non-district 5A and 6A teams, IMO.

I also had heard that this will be the last year that PC and SW play in the Ray Correll Bowl. I too feel that this is a shame, although I'm not going to comment on the circumstances of the withdrawl because I don't know any details. I do however wish that Somerset would play both schools each year.

The only NKY 6A team that will play HHS now is Ryle.

1. The travel cost would be near nothing.

2. It would be a great rivalry.

3. The game would be fun for fans.

4. The game would most likely get a lot of publicity in NKY.

Those are just a few that I have. It seems like there could be a few more, but I'd need to think about it a little longer.
