No one in Lexington will play Lex Cath......(I'm not sure if even Christian will anymore) That might be kinda old news though.

Powell Co. wont play Harlan Co.... I dont know why the Bears havent played a game yet..

Murray won't play Mayfield and that's ashame, because it was a longtime rivalry. Yes, Mayfield dominated the series when they were in the same district and class, but, they had some very good games over the years. Maybe this new coach will change that. I know there's been alot of bad blood between the 2 for several years now..

Prestonsburg now refuses to play Belfry after years of great football

Prestonsburg now refuses to play Belfry after years of great football

I would love to see Prestonsburg play Belfry again but Belfry seems to be getting better every year as Prestonsburg hits their bumps in the road every now and then with talent. If the Blackcats could get some kids off their butts and onto the football field then I'm sure they could compete with the Pirates, but Belfry is simply 2+ touchdowns better than Prestonsburg.

Somerset refuses to play both Pulaski and Southwestern in the same year. They will play one or the other each year in the Ray Correll Bowl which means they always get to play on their home field.

I find it funny that Bob Redman will only play us, if he feels he has a great team. Very funny...

I know it's a football thread and board but I just heard about this.

The Lexington public schools won't play Trinity or X in soccer. Both schools have participated in the big tournament the Lexington schools host but won't this year.

The Raceland fans also enjoy their annual visit to Putnam which they will open the season off with... despite defeating the Tomcats in two straight season's they will make yet another visit to Putnam.

I'm one of the rare Raceland fans who thinks its time for them to come to Ram Stadium. But a lot of Raceland fans don't mind going to Putnam every year and look forward to it. I can understand that but at some point I think it becomes disrespectful to at least not offer to come to Raceland once.

Given the size difference in the two stadiums I can see giving Ashland 2 straight home games, but get them to come down to Raceland at least once every third season. They've been playing each other now almost yearly since Bill Tom was at Raceland and you would think Ashland would WANT to come down US 23 just out of the mutual respect that seems exist between the two schools. But if Raceland doesn't press the issue they will continue to just let the Rams come to Ashland until someone says something.

All that said I suppose if they want the Rams to keep coming to their field and beating them then I shouldn't complain. :p

Why did the Campbell County-Highlands series end? With the improvement of the CCHS program, maybe they will "step-up" again.

Ashland plays a Home and Home with Greenup County each year, too.

The reason that 2006 and 2007 were both played at Ashland was that 2006 was at the end of the contract and 2007 was at the beginning.

It doesn't matter if you play first or last in a contract period as long as you play the same amount of games during the contract.

That being said, the 2008 game is at Greenup County.

Past 10 games (5 at home for each team):

2008 @ GCHS

2007 @ Ashland

2006 @ Ashland

2005 @ GCHS

2004 @ Ashland

2003 @ GCHS

2002 @ Ashland

2001 @ GCHS

2000 @ Ashland

1999 @ GCHS

They have three rivalry games on a rotating basis: Ashland, Boyd County, and Ironton (OH).

Throw in 4-5 district games that rotate.

Now all they have to fill is2 or 3 games.

________

Ashland has 4 district games that rotate - that's 2 home games (Woodford Co. & Johnson Central at home this year)

Ashland has 4 long-standing local rivalry games on a home and home basis: Boyd Co., Russell, Ironton and Greenup Co. - that's 2 more home games (Russell and Boyd at home this year)

Add to that mix Raceland and Pikeville at home and the tally stands at 6 home games - about average for the Tomcats recently.

Raceland has become a good local rival game. They have a good football program and bring a good crowd with them. This is the last year of the contract with Raceland though. I don't know if it will be renewed.

Both the Raceland and Pikeville contracts may be up for renewal for 2009. I think we need to look for bigger schools; now that we play in 5A. Playing smaller schools won't help us get ready for district games IMO. I don't think the AD will drop the local rival games - the crowds are too good. If it were up to me; I'd schedule a home and home game with a NKY or central KY team - it would do us good, even if we lost.
