What schools refuse to play other schools?

Featured Replies

I think Southwestern/Corbin refuse to play, but someone out there may know for sure.

As far as the Somerset not playing the county schools issue, I really do think it's a shame. That game alone makes enough money to run an athletic program for the majority of a school year. Quite frankly, I don't think Somerset's athletic program can go too many years without that revenue.

Don't know how true it is, but I have heard many schools will not play Danville; most in the Central KY area. Again, not sure if this is true or not or how their schedule is worked out.

I have heard that also...From what I have heard from people close to the program is that Sam will play anyone...

I do know Mercer will not play Danville because Jaggers does not want to play against his former team and Head Coach...Out of Respect...:thumb:

I wish Somerset would play both County schools each year too. However, there is a big difference in being the smallest school in your class and playing schools 3 classes above your size. I don't see any 6A schools and only 1 5A school on Pulaski's out of district slate this season. I wish the Maroons well but I don't think Somerset has to validate its program by playing the county schools. In the end Coach Cobb's job is to do what is necessary to compete for in Somerset's class. When it comes down to it the Jumpers have been much more proficient at doing that than both county schools combined.

Joe, It's not about validating anyones program. Its about the fact that they should play. Somerset has a great program and tradition and they have done very well against the two county schools over the years. There is not one single valid reason why the Jumpers should not be playing both PC and SW every year.

Somerset claims the reason they needed to move up to 3A was to avoid the cost of traveling to far away lands such as Middlesboro, but yet they refuse to save travel cost by playing two team right there in Somerset.

The only NKY 6A team that will play HHS now is Ryle.

What about Boone County??

Rule 13

Why then?

A few years back Highlands was to play a team in what was called the St.Luke bowl at Beechwood. For what ever reason that team could not play so Highlands asked Campbell County to play. After accepting to play, Highlands told Campbell County that the Camels would not get any of the gate and also have to pay all of the referee fees. Joe Roberts (CCHS A.D. at the time)did not take to kindly to these terms after he found out. After it was over he told me '' we won't play those people again''.

Joe has since left and I would like to see them play again. The games now should at least be a little closer.

On a side note, Highlands won that game big, but that is the year Highlands had to forfeit most of their games and were still State Champs. So Highlands has a St. Luke Bowl trophy somewhere that belongs to the Camels:sssh:

That's a good story to end this thread on. Someone can start a new if they like.
