Jack Savage of St. X. I got to face him in my very first high school at bat. It sounded like he was throwing pretty hard. I heard them hit the mitt but I don't think I saw any of them. He didn't even waste a pitch on 0-2. I was glad to get back to the safety of the bench. He made it to the show for a couple cups of coffee with the Dodgers and Twins.

Jared Camp from Huntington East High drafted by the Mets.

John Smith from Middlesboro was the toughest I faced. After that, I had trouble with another Middlesboro guy, a lefty and I think his name was Hood (early 90's) and Brian Schubert from Cumberland.

Tim Hood was the tall red headed lefty ,I played against him also in Senior league he had a nasty curveball.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Matt Ginter that played for GRC? Also there hasn't been near enough talk about Brandon Webb, he is a major league all star.

Gonna date myself here, but Joe Magraine was pretty good back in the days of old!

Rich Witten from Danville. He had an overpowering fastball, and a nasty curve.

Joe Magrane was the best I ever saw. Willie Blair(Johnson Central/Detroit Tigers,et.al) was the best I ever faced, with Ron Mullins(Boyd Co./Cincinnati Reds) a close 2nd. Faced Drew Hall when I was in college, he'd come to Morehead and pitch to us before he went to spring training. He'd tell you what was coming, still struggled to hit it.

 

Faced Magrane in regional finals. He was a stud. Batted of Ron Mullins several times but thought his ball was a little flat. Never hit of Drew Hall but man he was scarey because he did not always know where that 90+ fastball was going.

I faced Don Gullet in high school. He was the best I ever faced, with Bobby Lynch coming at #2.

I hit my first home run off of Don Gullett. Don Gullett Jr, that is.

I was 2-12 against him with 7 K's. I had a double, and an infield hit against him. We actually faced off against each other on the mound on 2 occasions, with him winning both games. He hit at least .750 against me with a couple of homers. It was really something to play against him my senior year, and then seeing him pitch for the Big Red Machine a summer later.

Brother Bill Lynch is two years older than Bob and I believe that Bill was signed by the Indians out of high school. Bill was outstanding high school pitcher. Those three consecutive state champ teams were special and I believe that Bob pitched on all three. Bob went on to play at Alabama.
