  1. Cov Cath is for real. Ryle and Cov Cath always play each other tough. It remains to be seen if Cov cath is as good as their "07 team, not saying that they won't will win the region in '09. Has a lot to do with match ups etc. and senior leadership. The 2007 Cov Cath team had a bunch of senior leaders.
  2. Good pitching will stop good hitting on most days. Coach Roesel should be pleased with the early successes of the pitchers. It's a long season and Ryle has some good hitters. Moving runners and executing in key sometimes takes a little time.
  3. Conner should be favored. It all depends on the pitching and defense. Is this a district seeding game this early in the season?
  4. A very solid player and an outstanding competitor. Congrats!
  5. Hard to believe that there isn't another CCH player mentioned as well as other 9th region kids.
  6. Not much discussion about Conner High School. The team should be pretty solid.
  7. Excellent catchers are a key in any good team. Look at the 9th region champs, that won sectionall and went to state(including CCH championship). All had good catchers. I agree that a good cathcer can control the pace of a game. Catching is a necessity at all levels of college ball, from DIII to DI.
  8. Other than Maile and Smith, have other 2009 grads committed to a college?
  9. Brad Popham has the potential to be an outstanding catcher.
  10. Look for NCC to be in the regional mix. They can win it and if they don't they can pull an upset or two.
  11. Is Shepherd a pitcher? If he's the young man I'm thinking of, he has the potential to become a top player.
  12. The players hsve the potential to be some of the best sophomores in the No. Ky. area. It will be interesting to see how the players play against high school competition from around the state. These are nice players who should contribute to the successes of their respective high school teams.
  13. Johnny was very good. He was a fine baseball player and had the advantage of learning from the older players when he was an underclassman. Another good pitcher during this era was Stultz from Greenup and I believe he pitched at Morehead. There were so many good baseball players during this era who went to schools other than Ashland. However, it was the Tomcats that had the deepest talent pool.
  14. Well said. Lots of individual talent during the past ten years, not to mention some of the best teams in the state in some of those years...Dixie, Cov. Cath, Boone, BWood and Ryle to name just a few. Lots of players have gone on to the next level and several to the pros.
  15. Brother Bill Lynch is two years older than Bob and I believe that Bill was signed by the Indians out of high school. Bill was outstanding high school pitcher. Those three consecutive state champ teams were special and I believe that Bob pitched on all three. Bob went on to play at Alabama.
  16. Congrats to Luke Maile for selecting Kentucky. The program should continue to compete at the highest level. SEC baseball is tough and Luke has the tools to be successful. Many baseball athletes from UK get drafted and have the opportunity to compete in the pros. It is nice to see that the top players are staying in state and not going south to play.
  17. Holy Cross has a couple of upcoming pitchers that should be in the mix for some mound duty.
  18. Congrats to Miss Allen. She is an outstanding player.
  19. 2007 Ryle graduates still playing in college: Sheehy (Bellarmine), Weis (NKU), Humphrey (Ohio Valley), Layne (Mount St. Joe), Hatfield (Transy). Both Layne and Weis pitched in the college summer league and had outstanding success against excellent competion, including D1 hiters. On another note there are many excellent players that choose not to play in college.
  20. Cov Cath has the deepest pitching and the best defense. Will they be as good as the '02 team? Time will tell. However the '09 team seems to have all of the ingredients to be as good as the '06 Tigers, the '07 Raiders and the '07 Colonels. All three of these teams had outstanding senior leadership from young men who knew how to play the game. Whichever team wins the regional will have the advantage of playing the sectional at a 9th region site. A huge advantage. Cov Cath vs Harrison County @ St. Henry? To borrow a phrase from sportscaster Keith Jackson, "Whoa Nellie."
