  1. Conner should be a tough team for any team to handle for one game. It all comes down to pitching and who gets hot. The last two times that NCC has won the 9th region, the team got on a roll. Any of the 33rd district teams can get hot, but it's still pitching and which team has the most of it.
  2. Any news on college choices for the unsigned graduates or the seniors to be?
  3. An excellent choice by Dan. Transy has an outstanding coaching staff and a top baseball program. He should do well!!
  4. From what I understand, the young man can also play some infield. If he continues to develope in RF and plays there in the future, he will no doubt continue to contribute to the success of Ryle's defensive in the outfield. Cov. Cath., Beechwood and Ryle have all had outstanding defense in the outfield over the last four or five years, and it's been in all three positions.
  5. If rain is predicted, it must be the Doc weeknd tourney. Nasty weather always seems to rule. Here's hoping for sunshine and the sound of ball hitting wood.
  6. Two nice players. Both will contribute to their school's successes.
  7. Not the final chapter of this story... to be continued in May and possibly June
  8. Two nice ball teams. Both have some talent to make a noise in in the 9th region. Not a better place to play ball in NKY on a crisp spring night. How did the field look?
  9. This young man can pitch. He is under the radar as far as BGP contributors are concerned, but the colleges, D1 included are well aware of his talent. The young man has tremendous upside potential.
  10. Besides the obvious pitchers that have signed a NLI, there are some other nice 2008 pitchers. There are also nice pitchers that will be 2009 grads at NCC, CCH, Ryle, Beechwood etc. Not all of the pitchers will play D1, but several can pitch in the high level DIII programs or NAIA. Holy Cross has several younger pitchers that should be outstanding in the next couple of years.
  11. Who are the young pitchers? They have two returning seniors and are returning two juniors. All four of these young men can pitch. Don't be surprised if the number one pitcher isn't used primarily as a closer. The young pitchers will no doubt see the mound. There are some good ones in the 10th and 9th grades. Both CCH and Beechwood have the bats, but between the two teams which will have the better defense and which team will have the best leadership? The pitching between the two is fairly even
  12. Matt Nichols has lots of UPSIDE potential. He has size, arm, bat and a good baseball head. He should be very successful playing college baseball.
  13. Several years ago there was another player in the 9th region that received a lot of walks. He could really hit. If it means walking someone to try and win a high school baseball game, that's the way it is.
  14. It's nice to be talking high school baseball in October. If the fan expectations are high for their repective teams, what about the expectations from the players? The players will be getting the feeling to play before long. In a couple of years Holy Cross might be loaded again. There are some nice young pitchers on the way. It doesn't seem like they really have a down year. New Cath has some nice talent returning, if it all comes together. Don't count Boone out. They have lots of talent returning. The Rebels probably like all of the chatter about the Radiers, Tigers and Colonels because they can stay under the radar for a little while. 9th Region baseball should be very nice to watch next spring.
  15. Both CCh and Ryle graduated some nice players. Both teams had excellent senior leadership. The seniors on both teams produced under pressure. It remains to be seen how the CCh and Ryle players that are returning accept the challenges of leadership. Don't overlook Dixie and Beechwood. Beechwood has the bats, defense and pitching.
  16. Somerset will be solid. In the sectionals they played a tough Ryle team that just pounded, pounded and pounded the baseball and ran and ran. Look for Somerset to get it going from the start. They will be difficult for most 12th region teams to handle and in a close regional game, the memory of the 2007 tough losses to Ryle will help them get back to the sectionals. Don't be surprised to see them in Lexington come June!!
  17. Congrats to Mr. Hayes. He has the baseball tools to be successful at the next level. He is a fine young man and will receive his education at an outstanding school. Did UK even give this player a look? He was on the radar at several D1 schools.
  18. Congrats to this young man. Zach and the other incoming pitchers will add some depth to a very good MSJ pitching staff. Zach also has a pretty nice bat.. wonder if he'll get a chance to compete for a 1b position down the road?
  19. Some players progress each and every year and some reach their peak early. Many of the players that aren't invited to play for the Colonels will have good opportunities with other teams that may even be a better "fit" for a particular player. In high school ball, some tryouts last a week to two weeks when the time devoted to pitchers and catchers is counted. But, there is only so much time to evaluate players on a hot afternoon. Players who played for the other Northern Kentucky 18U teams have opportunities to play in college and many were "cut" by the Colonels. Things seem to always have a way of working out for a determined player.
  20. Didn't CCH and Ryle scrimmage last year and CCH looked good in the scrimmage? Or was it in 2005? Anyway, Ryle came on strong towards the end of 2006 as did CCH. CCH has those tough out conference games to start the season. It's a long way until November '07. Both CCH and Ryle could be factors in their respective classes come playoff time. Wouldn't It would be nice if these two powerhouse athletic programs met on the gridiron during the season?
  21. Coach Sanders does as good of a job as any summer coach in getting his players to the next level. Get well Robert. Robert might be the "sleeper" pitcher in the Ryle 2006 and 2007 class. Kind of difficult for Coach Roesel at Ryle to take Robert's defense and bat out of the lineup on a steady basis for pitching. When he did pitch for Ryle, he was "nails". That's Ryle team baseball. Of the four Mount pitching recruits, Robert is the only lefty. The Mount just keeps reloading each year. Only two Mount recruits from Northern Kentucky, Layne and McQueen, and they both played for the Chiefs for the passt two summers.
  22. Congrats to Conner. Conner is a class young man, always very respectful. Nice to see that several young men from the young Wildcats 11 yr. olds: Layne, Oliver, Wagner and now Larkin will be playing at the next level. Good luck to Conner and the rest of the guys.
  23. Those in the know at Ryle baseball say that Robert's swelling has diminished and that he is recovering from his facial injury. The eye socket injury does not seem to be a major problem, but the two fractures in his jaw are giving him the most discomfort. Get healed up Robert!
  24. Congrats to Cody!! He is going to play in a very good baseball program and will be attending an excellent school. It remains to be seen if he will excel as a pitcher or as a position player. It's nice that he has talent in both.
