Can the Breds come close the the year that they had last year, or will the player and more importantly the loss of a key coach be too much to recover?

who did they lose? Coach Schulkens is back isn't he and they return their number 1 pitcher Connor and hitter Kelly along with 4 other starters. I'd say they'll be just as good as last year.

Roy has retired, and will be sorely missed. It could well be argued he was one of the best stregest and teachers of the game in NKY HS baseball.

Roy has already come out of retirement and has taken a baseball position at CovCath. I think either the Freshman or JV coach. NewCath will be better in some areas like defense and base running, might not be as deap at pitching as last year. More depth at every other position though. Should be a good year.

I think after watching NCC last year and knowing what they return this year they could very well repeat their 2008 success. And as long as Coach Schulkens is there I know he will have the team prepared for whatever challenges they may face. I played against his teams and have had the opportunity to talk to him many times and he is nothing but a great, classy baseball coach. Great guy as well.:thumb:

Anyone have any idea on a vague line-up yet?

Id say something like this..

1B-Giesler

2B-Rawe

SS-Conner

3B-Young

Of-Grosser

Of-Kelly

Of-?

C-? Not sure, I know they lost Pabst, and I know Kelly used to play catcher..

1B Giesler

2nd Connor(easier on his arm he's the ace)

SS Rawe(solid infielder)

3rd Meyer(possibly arm strength an issue can play 2nd when Connor pitches)

OF Kelly (plus he's as good as any catcher around)

OF Grosser

OF ???

Catcher Chris Kelly (Soph but he can play)

What about the kid who played SS and third base a little bit last year? His dad's an umpire and I believe his first name is Nate?

Logan Ferrara isn't playing?? That kid was an absolute HOOVER at SS in Knothole! Ben Paar was a fine player, too!!

Parr screwed up a promising HS career diving for a ball in baseball. I am not too sure about him lacing up the cleats this spring. Its too bad because he is an exceptional athlete and without the shoulder injury could have been a very good 3 sport athlete at NCC.

The Lohr, Parr and Johnson kids will have something to say as well.

Chris Kelly will be a key addition and will start at any of three positions, C, 3B, OF. This team is loaded with Super Soph's who can play at the Varsity Level. Jake Cain will step into any one of three positions, SS, 3B or OF. He will also be a key pitcher who can throw in the low 80's. Brennon Daunt who has gotten snaps playing Varisty football this year has matured tremendously and could pres for playing time. Brady Gray, Shawn Muphy and Luke Schmits will press for playing time if not compete for starting positions.

Look for NCC to be in the regional mix. They can win it and if they don't they can pull an upset or two.

Nate Rawe.
