It's really disappointing to see all these games getting washed....and it's just not NKY it's really the whole region including all of KY, and much of Ohio and Indiana.

I have to agree with you. The bad thing is it rains so hard the day before that you can not even get the game the next day no matter how sunny it is because the field is so wet from the day before.

 

I hope it starts clearing up.

Much better this year than prior years, due to one hard working parent who knows about this stuff (guess who) organizing and performing multiple fixes to the infield. The problem is that there isn't enough clay...lots of sand. The outfield also has standing water areas that have to be dealt with, but overall its light years ahead of where it has been. Ryle's field is looking good, just no more rain please!

Unfortunately, very true. A bunch of good topsoil was stripped off the football field prior to the turf installation and then dumped on the baseball field. Would have been a good plan if they had also added a bunch of clay to the dirt and more sand that what they did. Basically the field is just 100% topsoil with just a tiny amount of Turface on it. So, yes, when it whens, the water isn't absorbed and doesn't percolate down. It just sits in the top 2-3" or so of the dirt. It also doesn't help that they don't have a tarp. We will get it fixed for next season, but there are going to be lots of rainouts at that field this year.

 

The good news is that there are other improvements going on - the infield turf is in great shape, new portions of backstop and some netting being installed, some improvements to dugout, etc.. Not what it should be (yet), but eventually over time . . .
