Solid game by both teams pitching and defense with either team able to push across the final run in extra innings despite both teams having multiple scoring opportunities. There were a few sportscenter highlight catches with one coming in the bottom of the 8th when Conner's right fielder had a running/leaping catch over his shoulder on a rocket shot deep in the gap hit by Cody Meier. Very exciting game to watch!

2 years in a row this has happend to Ryle. This happen to the Raiders last year at Scott and they had to call the game as there was CATS testing going on the next day.

Pitchers:

 

Ryle- Rogers, Dice-K, Hempel

Connor- West & Russell

An incredible amount of missed opportunities for both teams in this game. Ryle had chances to win the game in the bottom of the 7th, 8th, and 9th and failed each time to push across the winning run. Conner also had plenty of their own chances to go ahead in this game and didn't capitalize.

 

Raiders continue to get very good pitching from everyone they throw. Andy Rogers pitches 4+ solid innings, "Dice-K" Imai pitches 3 innings of scoreless relief, and Hempel pitches 2 innings (a little bit of excitement in the 8th, as the Cougars loaded up the bases). Nick West looked good for Conner after a shaky 2nd inning (not helped much by Conner's infielding that inning) and Brenon Russell looked very good in relief.

 

Ryle's defense continues to look very good, turning 4 double plays and getting another lay-out catch by Donovan in RF. But the hitting just isn't there yet. 9 innings of play and Ryle manages but 4 hits (2 by Meier and 2 by Carney). Conner certainly had more hits than Ryle, but I wouldn't say they were exactly crushing the ball either.

 

Cody Meier is hitting as well as anyone in the region right now. And Tyler Brake simply has one of the nicest swings for a high schooler I've personally ever seen.

Why is Pugh not catching for Conner? I was told that he is no longer their starting catcher so that he could split time at 1B and DH?! That's crazy. He is a top 3-4 defensive catcher in NKY and to not catch him so he can DH is ludicrous. They already have Brake at 1B and he is somewhat limited in the role he can play defensively, so why the need to worry about having someone else there? Very odd to not use a talent like Pugh behind the plate.

Good pitching will stop good hitting on most days. Coach Roesel should be pleased with the early successes of the pitchers. It's a long season and Ryle has some good hitters. Moving runners and executing in key sometimes takes a little time.

I believe he and Samad are splitting time there. And my prior post is not to imply that either one of them are bad catchers. They are not. But neither one of them are close to Pugh's abilities. And Samad is also Conner's current #1 pitcher and having your #1 pitcher also catch is not a good combination (arm-wise).

This early in the season you are lucky to get good weather.......Cancelling a game is not cool.
