Ryle 3 Conner 3

This early in the season you are lucky to get good weather.......Cancelling a game is not cool.

Exactly. Perfect day for baseball.

If it was a pitcher issue bring up a JV pitcher like every other team does when they are short-handed. Not cool if that's the reason.

So did Conner use so many pitchers that they chose to cancel on Highlands today?

Between playing Wednesday night and using two pitchers who both threw a fairly high number of pitches, not having Shuttlesworth due to injury, and having three games scheduled this weekend in the Knochelman, they may have had an issue with pitching depth. Then again, maybe HHS cancelled on them or it was mutually agreed upon.

It wasn't HHS' decision. I think Alro screwed up here. Just bring up a JV pitcher and let the boys play.

The game against HHS was cancelled so Conner would have fresh arms because they have 3 games this weekend.

I believe he and Samad are splitting time there. And my prior post is not to imply that either one of them are bad catchers. They are not. But neither one of them are close to Pugh's abilities. And Samad is also Conner's current #1 pitcher and having your #1 pitcher also catch is not a good combination (arm-wise).

Pugh is a good catcher but he doesn't block the ball as good as Parker Ryle. Though Ryle's pop time to second is not as fast as Pugh's, he has already picked two guys off first. There is a sufficient amount of balls that are being blocked when he is behind the plate. As long as Pugh's bat is still in the line up IMO this is the best move Arlo has made.

What a beautiful day to play baseball. We dont get many like it during the spring. Not sure I understand cancelling the game altogether? This may have been a good time to test some young arms and at the same time allow your hitters to see more pitches and game situation feilding. Just my opinion. Hopefully the day was used for batting and feilding practice. Also, it looks like teams may be getting a rest for today as well unless you play at St. Henry, Boone County,Campbell County or Ludlow. I'm sure I missed some of the other better draining feilds but these just popped into my head. Baseball is such agreat game and I'm sure most Seniors want to play as much baseball as they can.

I would be stunned if any teams in NKY play today. It's a dang monsoon out there and I would think even tarped field would have standing water in the OF. I'd say the Knochelman tournament is in jeopardy once again this year. :madman:

 Pugh is bigger, stronger, has a better arm, blocks the ball just fine, can pick guys off base (seen him do it many times), calls a good game, and already has varsity catching experience. He is one of the better defensive catchers in NKY and his bat is outstanding. He should be the starting catcher and would be at just about every school in NKY except CCH. Oh, and Conner, of course.

Coop..its safe to say at this point the rains will not stop in time for todays games. It's going to tough to play tomorrow unless the sun comes out this afternoon. We will see. Also, your right on the money with your comments about Pugh. I've seen him play and he's getting better.

That's not a good excuse.

Every school has times during the year when they have a run of games. The obvious choice is to let a JV pitcher get some experience.

Why does that not make sense?

:thumb: Couldn't agree more it's part of baseball!

This is a great opportunity to see if a kid can give you some quality varsity innings. This is the only way you can find out.

You have your opinions but in the games this year that i have seen him catch he has let more ball reach the fence than Parker Ryle has. Yes, it might be because the pitches are to far outside that he just couln't reach them but everytime that ball goes to the fence another runner advances. If you saw him in the begining of the season there was at least 5+ pass balls a game. Now that Ryle is back there i havn't seen any runners advance from a pass ball.

Well, last post by me about it. First off, I'm sure Ryle is a solid player. His dad knows baseball and no doubt the kid has been taught the fundamentals of the game. But so has Pugh. If you're talking about the Dunbar game, from what I heard (I wasn't there), the pitching was pretty awful, so perhaps some blame should indeed be placed there. And you are also talking about games very, very early in the season that are cold and all the players - including the catchers - are getting back into shape and getting the rust off. Mistakes happen early in the season. Trust me on this one - I've seen Pugh catch many games. He will make no one forget Johnny Bench, but he's pretty darn good and I truly beleive one of the better ones in NKY.

I ain't buying it. I've never seen a high school catcher have 5 PBs in one game. Never.
