I have family in Evansville, IN and they felt it hard. Pictures off the wall, blocks knocked off porch, etc. My cousin text me this morning and she is in Louisville and she said her bed was shaking. We didn't feel it here, I didn't even know about it until FF went into work and called me to tell me about it. He thought they were joking but a ton of people felt it i the NKY area.

It woke me up. Scared the living crap out of me too. I thought "Jonathan" was trying to wake me up by jumping on my bed....only to realize...he was in his bed asleep. TD doesn't get scared by much but that really freaked me out! :scared::scared::scared::scared:

It seemed to hit my kids room the worst... clothes and toys scattered all about the floor... what a mess!

The same phenomenom happened at my house.

I felt it. But like others have said, I thought it was probably my imagination. I was lying in bed and suddenly felt a very high frequency vibration -- kind of like your cell phone can make. I thought I was having a sudden bout of rapid heartbeat. It was kind of like when you get the shivers or have too much coffee. The event lasted a good thirty seconds.

 

I have a habit of checking the time whenever anything unusual happens. It almost always turns out to be nothing; but not this time. I looked at my watch through blurry eyes and it said 5:38 AM. I found out two hours later about the earthquake.

 

I know Rockmom's son goes to school in Evansville. That's about 60 miles from the epicenter. It will be interesting to hear what he experienced. I'm glad there doesn't appear to have been any injuries with this.

 

The last earthquakes to be felt around here were in 1980 and 1987. I felt both of those. In fact, I was at my grandparents' apartment in an old building at the time of the 1980 quake. I swear to God, we thought the building (now, the Olde Fort Pub) was going to collapse. It swayed back and forth terribly! :eek: The 1987 quake wasn't that bad. Ironically, I was at my other grandparents' house in Highland Heights when that one hit.

 

Not to scare anyone, but they say that small shocks like this can occur ahead of a major quake, just as they can come as aftershocks. Scientists believe another major quake will occur someday along the New Madrid fault. Maybe this little jolt will relieve some of the built up pressure on the fault, and make the next one a little less severe. :thumb:

It's a good thing it wasn't a bigger one. When the New Madrid fault lets loose again we're going to have a lot of problems.

My entire bed was shaking and could feel a strange vibration throughout the house. I thought I was dreaming at first. I got up looked around "Little J" was fast asleep. Turned on the tv to see what the crap happened. 10 minutes later they report the quake. What's even worse is I was so nervous I drank way to much coffee this morning....and you know how hyper I am already!

 

She didn't know it happened. She slept through it...she had about 18 hour day at work yesterday.

Woke me and my wife up and lasted a few more seconds after we were awake.

People as far away as Niceville, Florida, 891 miles away, reported to the USGS Web site that they had felt the quake.

Henry said she felt the earth move this morning while she was in bed.....unfortunately I was in another room logged into BGP!
