Does anyone have any links to stories about why this one makes it MORE likely for another or bigger one? This doesn't make sense scientifically.

 

We are in danger of a big quake due to the New Madrid fault, but that isn't MORE likely due to last week's quake.

Many think this is a sign of a much worse one to come sometime in the next 2 months to 2 years.

The fear is that it may aggitate the stress levels on the New Madrid fault line to the south. The last time that creature ruptured in December-January 1811-1812 there were 3 quakes of an estimate of near 8.0. The Mississippi River flowed backwards, Reelfoot Lake was created in Tennessee, and church bells rang as far away as the the nation's capital. The loss of life was small due to the fact that the only inhabitats were Native Americans livin in the wilderness, and fur trappers. Today the same scenario would kill thousands in Memphis, St. Louis, and other populated centers.

Anybody else feel that one not long ago. I was at my computer and thought I felt something but my wife in bed did not. However, it appears that I was correct as the usgs is confirming another 4.5. Happened about 30 minutes ago.

Something did wake me around 2am, just turned over and went back to sleep. Watching news and just heard about the quake, must have been what made me wake.

The news is calling this one an after shock. Is that it or is this a new quake?

When I first started teaching, we had an Earthquake day because some guy predicted a major earthquake and parents did not want to send their child to school. Anyone else remember that?

I am a little surprised we have not seen Al Gore out and about saying this earthquake is a result of global warming.

I do! But would never have even thought of it if you hadn't mentioned it.

 

He was supposed to be some sort of super-expert, who had an uncanny ability to predict earthquakes because he had accidentally gotten one right. He had his prediction pinned down to the exact day "the big one" was going to hit.

If that was in the early 90's then yes. When I was a junior or senior in high school we got out for one day because some idiot said there was going to be an earthquake.
