Well who else in KY do you think we should play? We played the biggest schools in KY last season and the top team in Ohio. It's not our fault that they keep building new schools instead of adding on to existing ones.

 

I understand your point, but starting threads calling coaches scared does not advance the debate. Building new schools isn't the problem either. There is only one school in Marshall County for example, and no privates anywhere close by. I'm not from their and I'm not a 6A fan, but I do empathize with them. There are very few privates playing football anywhere in western Kentucky. (There is one playing basketball though, University Heights in Hopkinsville and notice that since they started giving scholarships neither Christian County or Hopkinsville have won anything - funny how that works).

Marshall County had one of their better teams this year and they still got the crap beat out of them - at HOME.

I've read a few proposals and a boat load of complaints since getting hooked on this site, but I haven't read many from the privates except to keep things the way they are.

I live close to the Tennessee border, and frankly they seem to have figured out how to solve it.

As far as the attendance arguement goes. I would expect T and X to have the biggest turn out if they were to meet in a state title game. They have two of the largest alumni base of any school and the game is played in their back yard so most fans don't have to travel far. What would the turn out be for a Bowling Green/Warren Central final if it were played at WKU? Many 6A teams, if they were to make it to the final, their fans would have to drive 2-3 hours one way to see the game. If they didn't want to spend the money on a hotel they would have drive home after the game.

 

I wonder what hit the attendence would take if the 6A game were to be held at WKU or someother facility outside of Louisville.

I thought the reasoning for 6 classes ws to allow more schools to compete for the State. Do we need to go to 10 or more? Also isn't the setup for alternating in the semis and it just so happens that the X and T regions meet coincidentally. Wasn't there a blind draw when this all occurred?

That argument is so tired 'Bama, why don't you get over it, and celebrate your son's team's success, instead of belittling their efforts. Find out where Tony Driver grew up, where he played high school football, who he lived with, and then talk about kids from other counties.

They might "seem to" from your perspective, but frankly I disagree wholeheartedly.

If you were embarassed re 6A, I'd hate to get your thoughts on the other 5 attendances then.

Jimmy I know you came out on the wrong end but rain or shine that was the best T-X game of all time. I realy didn't notice the rain until after. As for the post, I played when it was just the JC championship and those were great days so I am fine with both schools keeping the gate by playing early. The winner will go on to the title anyway.

Twenty coaches of Class 6A football teams signed a letter to KHSAA commissioner Brigid DeVries asking her to give "careful consideration" to the playoff alignment. The system in place would allow St. Xavier and Trinity to meet in the 6A finals in 2009 and 2010. The coaches want the football playoff format tweaked so that if St. X and Trinity meet in the playoffs, it would be before the state championship.

I don't think it is out of bounds for for these coaches to make that request.

 

I've said it before and I'll say it again, numerically the population of X and T are so significantly out of range of the rest of 6A that you can make the argument that they don't belong in the 6A class.

 

Clearly the coaches don't see the field as level or they wouldn't have made the request.

 

If you want to call these coaches "scared" you have to equally label every proponent of the population based class system as a whiners also.

I agree it wasn't very impressive. If I remember correctly it is the T and X Alumns that say that the attendance isn't very large for that game because of weather and distances for out of state fans not expecting a T-X matchup. There wasn't a enough going on like during the regular season meeting.

 

 

The regular season game is another thing all together. The date is known in advance, and it's certain they will be there. The weather is always better, and not so close to the holidays. Families plan vacations around that date. There was a time when that game drew more than UofL games, back when they stunk.

 

A few years ago, our little survey counted folks from over 30 states and 3 countries, including Iraq. A father took his military leave to co-incide with the big game. How cool is that?

 

Nonetheless, the attendance was still much greater than other games this year. It's all relative.

Lets look at the reasons they are "scared".

 

All Male students. Public schools should go single sex as well.

 

They haver kids from 20 surrounding counties plus out of state. Publics should open enrollment to all counties, giving students a say in their own education.

 

Private money can go directly to the football program. Public schools have to share. Publics set bizarre rules preventing themselves from upgrading their own facilities, like spreading out large contributions to all schools.

 

Look at their home fields. See above. All tax dollar free BTW. You're welcome. Didn't Redman want to donate $$$ to Male's program, and was thwarted? And Shaun Alexander?

 

Their coaches are known to look around at younger kids. I don't even know what to say about that one?!? :confused:

 

Look at the amount of numbers of assistant coaches they have compared to pubs. Mostly volunteers. Publics need more parental and graduate involvement, not to mention middle school teams.

 

Most public schools have kids go both ways, the X/Rocks have over 100 kids for the varsity alone. Agree, but I see teams playing players both ways, when there are plenty of players on the bench not playing. Is an exhausted start better than a well rest sub? I don't know. Besides, if you fix all the other issues above, you would have more turnout for football.

Best two teams in the state should meet for the State Championship.

I agree. But they should meet wherever their region lies. Last year in 4-A and perhaps again this year.....Bell Co. and Lexington Catholic met in the REGIONAL championship! Both were #1 or #2 all season. Bell was undefeated. Bell Co. was the only playoff team in the playoff to give LC a game of any significance. Everyone said....that was the "real" state championship. The winner ran the table from that point on. Same would go for X and T. Trinity and St. X should not have any advantage over these other teams. They should fight it out to win their region as all the rest do. If they don't like that....or relocate their campus to another region! Everyone wants to fuss over the public vs. private debate....this is about KHSAA ranking teams in one region and splitting them up so they can meet in finals. This is available in no other class...6-A coaches concerns are well-founded.

Tony Driver, give me a break, 20 counties do not lie, its not level. Look at the past 10 years, 20 years the numbers don't lie.

They make less than they would at public schools, I know that for a fact. Specific numbers I do not know though.

 

I'm very sure public school teacher pay is better than that of private school teachers.
