March 15, 200818 yr I agree. But they should meet wherever their region lies. Last year in 4-A and perhaps again this year.....Bell Co. and Lexington Catholic met in the REGIONAL championship! Both were #1 or #2 all season. Bell was undefeated. Bell Co. was the only playoff team in the playoff to give LC a game of any significance. Everyone said....that was the "real" state championship. The winner ran the table from that point on. Same would go for X and T. Trinity and St. X should not have any advantage over these other teams. They should fight it out to win their region as all the rest do. If they don't like that....or relocate their campus to another region! Everyone wants to fuss over the public vs. private debate....this is about KHSAA ranking teams in one region and splitting them up so they can meet in finals. This is available in no other class...6-A coaches concerns are well-founded.We currently do play in our regions. :thumb:
March 16, 200818 yr I am of the side that it is kind of weird that two teams from the same city can meet in the state finals... I don't get it. Granted it pits the two best teams in the state, but it goes against the idea of having regions. NewCath in the early 90's had at least 3 teams that were #2 or #3 in Class A. They never even made it out of the region b/c Beechwood was king. Why does it matter with football and not baseball or basketball? Louisville has two regions in football (2nd and 3rd), baseball (6th and 7th) and basketball (6th and 7th) and their is a possibility that both 6th and 7th regions could meet for a all-Louisville basketball or baseball final as there has been for football. Like basketball in football there is a blind drawing for which region will play one another. In baseball there is a blind drawing for which regional winner will play one another in the semi-state; likewise, there is a drawing for which semi-state winner will play each other in the state tournament. So what is the big deal? Is it because neither Louisville school made it to the finals that we don't throw a fit about this? If someone could explain to me why there shouldn't be two Louisville schools in the football finals, but it's okay to have two Louisville schools in the baseball and basketball finals, that would be great! :thumb:

March 16, 200818 yr Are Trinity and St. X in different regions in these sports? Both Trinity and St. Xavier are in the 7th Region in basketball and baseball.
March 17, 200818 yr So tell me how they can be in the same regions in two of the three main sports, but be in two seperate halfs of the state in football?
March 17, 200818 yr So tell me how they can be in the same regions in two of the three main sports, but be in two seperate halfs of the state in football?I hate to sound like a broken record, but ... In 6A (as was the case in the old 4A), the geographic midpoint is right down the middle of Louisville. As it turns out, St. Xavier is on the west side of the line and Trinity is to the east.
March 17, 200818 yr I have never looked at it on a map. If that is the case, then so be it. I think that is what the argument is as far as different regions for some sports, but not for others.
March 17, 200818 yr I hate to sound like a broken record, but ... In 6A (as was the case in the old 4A), the geographic midpoint is right down the middle of Louisville. As it turns out, St. Xavier is on the west side of the line and Trinity is to the east. To back up this point in the sixth region of baseball and basketball you have Shawnee, Fairdale, DeSales, Holy Cross, Central, Bullitt East, Valley, Western, Beth Haven, St. Francis, Doss, etc. who are either in a lower classification in football or do not have a football team at all. The reason why St. X and Trinity are in the same region (7th) in basketball and baseball is because there are more teams to the west of their locations (see above schools for examples) which make up the 6th region. If more of these lower classified west/southwestern Louisville football schools played up into 6A then you could possibly have Trinity and St. X in the same football region; however, until that happens this is the hand you are being dealt. Just be happy that there is a blind draw in football for the regional winners so the possibility of St. X and Trinity meeting in the 3rd or 4th round still exists. :thumb:
March 17, 200818 yr Best two teams in the state should meet for the State Championship. But that is not fair! There has to be at least 1 public school in the final.:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
March 17, 200818 yr Lets create 346 classes. That way everyone will win a title. I am all for it. I think we should also give a trophy to all of the fans too.
March 17, 200818 yr Author I would not divide them up. I would have a seperate division for private schools then they could be assured of a state title every year and not have to worry about Male every ten years or so upsetting the apple cart. Let's face it the privates are in a league of their own, so why not give them a division of their own? That's what I suspected.
