March 14, 200818 yr Twenty coaches of Class 6A football teams signed a letter to KHSAA commissioner Brigid DeVries asking her to give "careful consideration" to the playoff alignment. The system in place would allow St. Xavier and Trinity to meet in the 6A finals in 2009 and 2010. The coaches want the football playoff format tweaked so that if St. X and Trinity meet in the playoffs, it would be before the state championship. http://www.kentucky.com/289/story/346387.html
March 14, 200818 yr Lets look at the reasons they are "scared". All Male students. They haver kids from 20 surrounding counties plus out of state. Private money can go directly to the football program. Public schools have to share. Look at their home fields. Their coaches are known to look around at younger kids. Look at the amount of numbers of assistant coaches they have compared to pubs. Most public schools have kids go both ways, the X/Rocks have over 100 kids for the varsity alone.
March 14, 200818 yr I think those coach's wrote that letter for us to be entertained by the private school population's reaction. :irked: :madman: :fight:
March 14, 200818 yr There is no arguement that those two schools year in and year out are the best two this state has to offer, but the arguement is what about the other 6A teams who cannot compete with numbers, facilities, and coaching numbers. The only other team that could even maybe play with them is Highlands, and in most years they would stomp Highlands. Plus, look at the way the REGION is set up two LOUISVILLE schools meet in the finals...thats not right...two Lexington schools will never meet in a 6A championship. Those two teams need to meet either in a regional final or in the Semi's...that is fair to the rest of these kids all over the state who bust their butt's just hard as Trinity and X...Most students aren't blessed to go to a program where everything from weightrooms to offices are first class, but they shouldn't be punished for not have those things either.

To the facilities argument 12 of our 18 titles came before we had good facilities. In fact they looked more like a torture chamber than weightroom.
March 14, 200818 yr I say good for these 20 coaches, doing there job standing up for what they believe and asking for help to at least allow other schools to have a chance. Most people whether they admit it or not know these schools have a little bit of an advantage over others in the state, the size difference alone is extreme.
March 14, 200818 yr I'm not going into the whole numbers advantage. I am of the side that it is kind of weird that two teams from the same city can meet in the state finals. Ohio basketball has a similar set up w/ Moeller and St. X meeting in the finals last year. I don't get it. Granted it pits the two best teams in the state, but it goes against the idea of having regions. NewCath in the early 90's had at least 3 teams that were #2 or #3 in Class A. They never even made it out of the region b/c Beechwood was king.

Surely these brave upstanding men have no problem with their names being made public do they.
March 14, 200818 yr It will never happen. The Trinity-X championship games' entire proceeds go to the KHSAA. There's not another team in the state that will bring HALF the revenue that either of these two generate for this game. I would be willing to bet that a substantial portion of the KHSAA budget comes from the 6A Championship Game alone. It is a matter of dollars, not what is fair or right. The reality is, that the KHSAA cannot afford to mess with T or X. The loss of either of the two’s business would be devastating. The only way that those two can ever be pushed in any direction other than the one they chose, is for the KY government to provide extra financial funding help to the KHSAA. Don’t be mad at T and X; be mad at a government that does not place much priority on what goes on in its schools and their extra-curricular activities. Blaming T and X and griping about the Public/private Debate is failing to see the woods through the trees.
March 14, 200818 yr Remember when people complained that because they were on the same side, it was pretty much guarenteed that one would get to the finals? That might have been when there was a Louisville champ and then a state at large champ as well. People complained to get them on opposite sides of the bracket.
March 14, 200818 yr Author Who are the coaches? Surely these brave upstanding men have no problem with their names being made public do they. Modify this letter and send it to the KHSAA. They have to respond in 3 days. Sample open records request John Smith, City Clerk Municipal Building Anytown, Kentucky 40999 Dear Mr. Smith: I respectfully request to inspect the following records: 1. All contracts that the city has with Home Wrecker Service; 2. Any correspondence between the mayor and the Home Wrecker Service since January 1, 1990. If these documents are temporarily unavailable, please inform me of the earliest date when I may inspect them. I also request a copy of the contract between the city and Home Wrecker Service dated October 14, 1992. I understand that I will have to pay the actual cost of making this copy. Thank you for your attention to this request.
