Nevermind, I guess they are still updating the site. I just read the most recent update where the AD Jim Spears said he went to the UK-Vandy game and that some people who sit in front of him knew who he was because of BC trying to get Morriss and that it caught him off guard. He also stated that boosters have helped out in some cases as far as dealing with assistant coaches go but that was the only reference he had as far as boosters involvement. It wasn't a long story, but it was up there a few minutes ago. I'm sure it'll be back. Sorry for the bad links. I tried.

Reading the news article and what was reported from the hiring powers, this is how I see that it could work for Morris.

 

I think he would be hired as a teacher and given a coaches stipend within the Boyle budget.

 

It sounds like local business people may utilize Morris as an advertising spokesperson through an independent contract.

 

It also sounds like the Boosters CAN NOT be involved with paying money to Morris.

 

 

If what I read is accurate, then there is nothing illegal or "smells bad" here at all. (BTW, some of the best Italian food "smells bad" but tastes really good. :lol:) The school is doing what it can do under the guidelines and law and some supporters who own businesses are practicing "free enterprise" and utilizing a marketable face.

 

Whether all this works out, or Morris comes, or Morris leaves - I disagree with some who have said it hurts the program or the kids. Morris is not a "savior" of Boyle football but he could be a great catalyst that brings enthusiasm back into the program.

 

If you want a mess you should have been here in the late 80's. When long time coach Ed Rall (13 years and still the longest Boyle tenure as Head Coach) left in 1987 the administration did not move at all on a hire. The settled for promoting Sam Burke to head coach. This was a "stop gap" measure so everyone wouldn't have to go looking. (If I remember Sam didn't even want the job but he did it for the kids.) The next year Boyle hired an assistant from Jessamine County named John Griggs. John was a good guy but he did not do a good job as head coach. So from '88 through '91 the program suffered until the administration could find a new coach.

 

Even if Morris doesn't "work out" for the long haul, it can't be worse than that era.

From someone who was "there" I couldn't agree more. I'm just going to sit back and wait for the "news" one way or the other. But please let me say this just one more time ..... I can assure everyone that Boyle County would never do anything that wasn't on the up and up. We may not be the sharpest knives in the drawer sometimes but we "ain't" that stupid.

Nice article by Larry (no surprise there) and I really liked what Morriss had to say about high school coaching and his thoughts on the Danville/Perryville area.
