Johnson Central's use of ineligible player

Featured Replies

No, retaliation has nothing to do with it. The main point is that the accused deserve the right to know who has accused them. I think it is the responsibility of the KHSAA to make sure those rights are met. The KHSAA let's the accuser hide behind them and thus no one gets to question their actions or motives! It is wrong that JC is unable to look their accuser in the eye.

I respectively disagree. It is the right of all of us to report any alleged wrong doings to the KHSAA. Not sure what good it would be for JC to know who or whom the accuser are/is... Are you thinking retaliation? Don't think that would be quite ethical.

I trust JC will satisfy the KHSAA and all will be back to normal in Eastern Kentucky in a matter of weeks. :D

By the way, is the player in question an impact player?

Well I have had about enough speculation into what is going on. I am going to give my opinon of the whole situation as best I can because I need to get this off my chest.

Ok, JC is accused of using as ineligible player. We are all aware of that! Now, if JC is found to be at fault, (which I can't see that) than they deserve whatever punishment they recieve.

Now, I have a thought for you posters. It is obvious that someone outside of JC has made the KHSAA aware of the situation. They have accused JC of violating these rules, thus looking for sanction against JC. The KHSAA has informed JC of these alligations and given them a timeline to respond.

Well this is what I think! In a court of law the most hardened criminals have had the right to meet the people who have accused them of their crimes. The accused have the right to look their accusers in the eye. I for one believe that the KHSAA should have to provide documentation to the accussed of not only the violations but also who is accusing them of those violations.

I believe it is Johnson Central's right to know who has accused them of these violations! It is sad to me that other schools can hide behind the KHSAA when they accuse other schools of breaking rules. It is also sad the school or schools accusing JC does not have the character to make it known that they have accuesed them.

I think it does matter when that make the ruling because JC wouldnt host the 1st round of the playoffs and possibly the 2nd. I have always liked playing at home rather than away.

But what does it matter who accused them of this ?????

Oh trust me it matters! If you had someone at your work accuse you of taking something and this cost you your job, are you saying that it wouldn't be your right to know who accused you?

If I really did take something, then what difference would it make?

If you are ultimately found to have been a thief, does it really matter?

So if they do find out, what does that matter. Like a previous poster said, is there going to be some type of retalation?

Listen, all I am saying is this! In a court of law, criminals, the most nasty criminals on earth have the right to look eye to eye at those who have accused them! It don't matter whether they were innocent or gulity they still have the right to look at them.

The KHSAA is no different! If a memeber school accueses another member school of a rule violation, than the member school who is accused should have the right to look at those schools who have accussed them.

For the info I have The player is a sophomore and starts on the DL. The first day of practice the player got a wavier that allowed him to play in the 07 season. The KHSAA got a call in the month of September and were told that the player and his family were not currently residents of Johnson County. Although it would be kinda hard to make the four hour trip from McCreary County to Johnson County everyday. I know for a fact that the Player and his family ARE residents of the county. so it shouldn't be a problem taking care of the matter. The player, his family, and coach Matney with the support of the county are attempting to get an appeal. He should be back in uniform by Friday.

Just wanted to let everyone else who replies to this post to see post #12 again.

I hope it all works out for Johnson Central and the kid in question, but "paper work" should be in place to refute any allegation as soon as it happens. I think this will be a lesson learned at JC and after the KHSAA inquiry all will be fine in Eagleland.

I see what you are saying but that aint the way it works...

The person that reported this might not be associated, work in, a member school:confused: Then what do you do when a disgruntled fan reports from your school or another???

I just saw this allegation last night and was VERY suprised to hear it. My advise is to stop making it so public and let the people in charge take care of this matter.

The only thing that telling the Johnson County residents who has brought these matters to light would do is cause hostility, possibly even endanger someones well being. Who accuses isnt here nor there, its the fact of did Johnson Central try to slip one over on the KHSAA or not. bottem line

I really dont have a comment on this other than let the KHSAA make their decision. Obviously, the young man who is a sophomore isnt driving from McCreary Co. to Johnson Co. everyday. I dont see how this wouldnt be considered a bona fide move which is the only thing I could see the KHSAA ruling he was ineligible. The decision, while it is big deal, will not keep JC out of the playoffs which is good. I assume with the playoffs starting next week, they will make their decision rather quickly, but who knows. I am not for using players that are ineligible, and if JC did so knowingly, then they should be punished, but if this is what it appears to be, just a glich in the paper work, then JC shouldnt have to forfeit anything.

One could argue that its not the right, but rather the obligation, to report alleged wrong doings.

not so true.... If something is reported annonymously and the law looks into it and finds suspected wrong doing then they can open and investigation. There's many of cases, millions that go prosecuted that don't have the accuser brought in front of a jury.

As far as this goes, I do not understand how they can rule the player to practice but not play in a game. It does seem like a error somewhere. I had a son who transferred and the school he went to had to request from the school he left to be released and the AD at that school had to send paperwork to KHSAA. In this case, JC asked for the release, and MC release and sing off on it and send it to KHSAA. Then they release and let JC know the outcome.

Good luck to all on this one. But it is always mentioned in our state clinics in which all head coaches and officials must attend and this transfer thing always is a topic. It does not concern officials at all but this is a administrative thing for the schools.

I want to correct one thing mentioned in this thread. No one involved went to Julian Tackett's house to conduct any business. Brigid DeVries is handing this case, not Julian Tackett.
