Heard rumor last night that Johnson Central played a transfer player that was ruled ineligible by the KHSAA yesterday. This player had played in all games and Johnson Central would have to forfeit all wins. Somebody help me out. Is any of this true?

Here is the best I can gather on the whole situation.

 

Johnson Central had a player from McCreary Central to transfer to JC. Apparently they lived in Johnson County before but moved to McCreary County some time ago.

 

McCreary Central released him, but didn't send the paperwork to the KHSAA. So somebody found out about the situation and let the KHSAA know about it. Coach Matney, this player and the player's dad are addressing this with the KHSAA. This player didn't play against Ashland last night, and Coach Matney and Johnson Central are waiting to see what the ruling will be.

Worst case scenario for Johnson Central would be for them to have to forfeit all the games they used the ineligible player. That would give them only one district win (last night's win over Ashland), but that would still be good enough for 4th in the district. Johnson Central would then have to play their 1st playoff game on the road against Woodford County instead of playing at home against Bryan Station.

Sure hope they get this worked out. Hope to see JC make some noise in the playoffs this year.

I'm glad to found out prior to the Ashland game. Even if they had to forfeit every game (minus the last one, of course), they would be in the playoffs.

What year is the player and is he a starter?

No matter what happened I am glad JC should make it into the postseason no matter how the KHSAA rules.

I'm just curious, because I don't quite understand the rules, but how is it JC's fault, Matney's, or the player or his family's if McCreary county didn't do what they were supposed to do?

As I understand it, the school the kid transfers to is supposed to wait on the go ahead from the KHSAA before playing the player. As a matter of fact, each kid that transfers is supposed to sit a year unless a waiver is granted. I assume JC applied for that waiver. Did they just not wait on the answer or what?

Can't see JC playing a kid without the paperwork in order.

For the info I have The player is a sophomore and starts on the DL. The first day of practice the player got a wavier that allowed him to play in the 07 season. The KHSAA got a call in the month of September and were told that the player and his family were not currently residents of Johnson County. Although it would be kinda hard to make the four hour trip from McCreary County to Johnson County everyday. I know for a fact that the Player and his family ARE residents of the county. so it shouldn't be a problem taking care of the matter. The player, his family, and coach Matney with the support of the county are attempting to get an appeal. He should be back in uniform by Friday.

I don't know all the facts here, but it's obviously not that simple, or Johnson Central would have already had a ruling from the KHSAA.
