Reminds me of the 06 team, and the 05 team, and the 04 team, and the 03 team, and the 02 team, and the 01 team, and I guess I could keep going.

Last night, Dixie switched things up to start the game. They went with a TE, G, C, G, T, T set with 2 WRs, 1 RB, and 1 FB. They ran right at Holmes, and they couldn't stop them until the INT was thrown. The key with this set is that Dixie was able to use their size, and it also put the recievers in one-on-one situations, which was key against the athletes in their backfield. Then they went back to the spread after the INT to turn it over again with INTs, and also 3 and outs (one drive was less than 15 seconds). Not until the second half did they go back to the offset line and pound the ball.

I think Maloney had 170 yards rushing.

175 on 30 carries according to the post. He ran very well last night. He gets behind the big lineman, and the defense cannot see him. Bricking had 113 yards, 2 TDs, and 3 INTs. Over half those yards came on the two TD catches by Preston and Dettmer. Preston used his size to outjump the defender on his TD catch, and Dettmer's was setup perfectly by the run. A nice play action pass on the post pattern.

If the run is working why stop it???? And if someone has a petition to sign to make some "changes" at Dixie I thnik there wouldn't have been enough paper at that game for everyones signatures! And what's with the in-fighting among coaches???? Is this part of the problem..... :confused:

First off congrats to Holmes for taking advantage of the situation given to them. Good win!

 

Dixie continues to shoot itself in the foot. When your pounding the ball between the tackles, and your QB is having a bad game by forcing the ball, and over throwing his recievers why do you abandon what is working?

 

What is the idenity of Dixie's passing game? IMO they keep trying to hit a home run on every attemp. Most of the passes are thrown to the outside, or skipped to the wideouts for a flanker screen. Dixie hardly ever works the middle of the field, or look for underneath recievers to set up the big play. They continuously try to force the ball to the outside for 20+ yard receptions. Many of these passes are incomplete which then leave your offense in 2nd/10 & 3rd/10 situations. The accuracy and decision making has not been present this year in Dixie's passing attack. This results in quick 3 & out's putting the strain on the Defense by constantly being on the field.

 

I'll congradulate Holmes again by taking advantage of the situation handed them, but actually this was a game Dixie lost by questionable strategy and execution.

I have to agree. Had dixie continued running the ball they would have controlled the clock, keeping the Bulldog offense off the field. I give credit to the athleticsm of the Bulldogs and the questionable strategy on Dixie's part. I see a lot of Ft. Thomas people on here singing the praises of one coach and not necessarily the young men that were on the field. I find it odd that the Bulldog contingent isn't on here praising a coach. Makes me wonder??? I am not sold on Coach Lickert yet. 2 wins doesn't merit a MEDAL of HONOR.

Lickert won me over early... I covered the Holmes-HC game two years straight now and I can tell you that the Holmes sideline from one year to the next is night and day. Last year players had their helmets off, jerseys untucked, sitting on the bench, yelling at each other, yelling at the refs... Basically no discipline was in place. Then I cover the game this year and I see a bunch of young men standing up, helmets on, being positive, picking each other up, etc... Discipline is a key ingredient of good coaching and you could tell Lickert had full control of his team. You have to start somewhere and discipline is as good of a place as any.

 

Not only will Lickert's young men be better football players with his teaching, they will be better people as well. Isn't that what its all about anyway?!?!

 

Sit back and enjoy the ride because Holmes is very lucky to have Coach Lickert on campus.

You gotta give the guy some time. He probably has the hardest job in all of NKY. The key is to get the kids to come out and play. They have plenty of athletes roaming the halls of that school. Last night, he made sure that his playmakers had the ball in their hands in order to win. You also have to commend him on the way his team handled themselves on the field. That was the best sportsmanship game I've ever witnessed between these two teams. Only once did I see a Holmes and Dixie player barking at one another, and only once did a player really argue with a ref. It was a very clean game. I'm sure someone will want to jump on the late hit from Miller on Molony, but that was the refs fault. Molony has been down a good 5 to 7 seconds when Miller hit him, but the refs never blew the whistle.
