NO. All I said was this kid was having some issues. I listened to him. I told him he had to make his own decision about HIS future. He is a good kid, who has had some personal problems he had been dealing with, and needed someone to talk to outside of his family and the coaching staff. Not saying I saved anything. All I said was that if someone doesn't believe I support the DAWGS they are wrong. Dead Wrong. So in a sense, I am supporting Lickert.

1. No I praised the kids. I am not complaining about being an also ran. I HAVE BEEN THERE with these same kids. I know a coach cannot win if the kids don't produce. When I was there I preached to the kids I had to be better students and citizens, because most of them will not have football after high school. That being a BETTER man was more important than being a good football player. Also if I had a kid that was taking cheap shots or mouthing I sat them. What other coaches allowed and did was out of my control.

 

Which is what EVERYONE has said about Lickert, from the people that see the kids everyday in the classroom. I have a hard time believing the excuses you gave for the kids was making them better men. It was a crutch that they will continue to use as long as people like you are supporting it.

 

Expect more from these kids and you'd be surprised. Don't say, "this isn't from Ft. Thomas and the kids can't be that dedicated." Bullcrap, no one including Coach Lickert is expecting these kids to stop doing anything not related to football. He's preaching commitment. Commitment to your faith, your family, your friends, your schoolwork, your work and your life. That makes men. Telling them they that it's ok, they have it difficult when they don't succeed is the exact opposite these kids need.

 

Obviously you're not as close to it as you think. And again, do you think high school kids are going to tell you all the good that Coach is doing when things are going bad? As with every high school aged kid, they're blaming other people. Most just aren't that gullible...

Steve has raised the bar on expectations and I think a few kids have had trouble adjusting to that but most , being smart kids, figured it out. You can't miss films. You cant just leave practice because you're unhappy. When you hear folks from the school saying that there's an overall positive change on and off the field, that goes to the new staff. I'm not sure if that level of discipline was there in the past. Actually, I'm positive it wasn't there.

The Dogs won the game, some on here mentioned that they were handed the situation, I think they were ready to play and made the plays they needed to make on both sides of the ball.

Holmes has gotten an excellent coach in Lickert...and I liked Dave Trosper as well.

It will be neat to watch these Dogs grow and finish the season.

I think the future is very bright, especially when Coach Lickert and staff can get the whole off-season weight program in...

 

They definitely weren't handed the game. They took advantage of every opportunity whether given to them or taken by them. Offesively, they made the plays to win. Dixie had problems stopping them all night. Defensively, they played the pass very, very well.

They played the pass well against Holy Cross too. They were getting pressure and were playing well on the corners. They are athletic...

I love how all of the Highlands faithful get on here and sing the praises of alum Steve Lickert and in the next breath take a shot at another alum Tom Spritzky. Oh how we forget where the Dixie program was before Tom got there and Steve appears to have the Holmes program headed in the right direction. I do not believe that praise would have been heaped upon Tom had Dixie won the game, but since Holmes won we will put Steve Lickert right up there behind Dale and Vince Lombardi. Lets treat both of these guys with the respect they deserve.

First of all, I didn't see a post where an HHS person took a shot at Tom. But it would make little sense to "heap praise" upon Coach Spritzky for winning a game he was favored to win.

 

As you say, Coach Lickert has done a good job with the Holmes program. To suggest that he doesn't deserve a little credit for what he's done there is something of an injustice to him.
