How did you meet your spouse?

Featured Replies

Saw the thread titled "How I met your mother", and I thought it would be interesting to hear the married members of BGP tell their own stories.

I'll start. My wife and I were both freshmen at Morehead in 1973. I was going out with her roommate who was from Ohio (try not to hold that against me, folks). Turned out that I liked the roommate from Greenup County better, we got married in 1978. Still together, nearly 29 years and two wonderful children later.

I was working at Ashland Oil Inc. at the time, and she started working there as an intern in the accounting department while she was going to school. We had our 1st date in July of 93 (Reds-Padres game), and 16 months later we got married.

IN a college class plus I was a big brother for her sorority.

I met my wife to be at a Sig Ep fraternity party December 1986. She was completely 100% sober. I was not. We married in November of 1988 and are still going strong.

Met at work. Asked a female friend of mine who worked in the same department to introduce us. That was 1986. We were married in 1988 and she hasn't been able to get rid of me yet.

The first thing she noticed about me was my eyes, ...

The first thing I noticed about her was her backside, ...

Men truly are different than women!!! ;)

We met at a friend's 16th birthday party. At the time, she didn't want anything to do with me. So, I became friends with her friends. I knew this would be the only way I'd get to see her since we went to different schools. I played the nice guy card with her friends, but never led them to believe that I liked her, so that they would talk about me amongst their friends. I guess I ended up playing the nice guy card a little too well, and everyone thought that one of her friends and I had something going on. At that time, my buddy had told me he liked the girl that I was after, but in his defense, he had no clue I was after her. So, after a summer of her friends and my friends hanging out, we got to talk some. Towards the end of summer, we talked more and that's when my buddy starting calling her. She would have me call her about 10 minutes after he called her, because he would just sit there and not talk. So, knowing that they really didn't have a relationship, I jumped in and called her. I won her over, and 11 years later, we're still together. Our first "date" was a Dixie football game at Holmes. And 11 years later, she still complains that I watch too much football.

I met my wife in 1985 when I was working with the security group at Ashland Oil (now Ashland, inc.). She had hired in as new guard and I was working the day that she started and I trained her on the job. The first day that she worked after all her training was completed she was sent to work the facility that I was working at the time. I ask her out after a short time working with her. That was in September I believe, I ask her to marry me on Christmas eve of that year and we were married the following May. That was 21 years ago this past May and I have never regretted it, she is one special lady. (would have to be to put up with me - LOL)

This lady has been my rock through everything and especially when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis a few years agao. She has stayed by my side and helped me get along physically as well as spiritually.

There is no doubt in my mind that our meeting wasn't by chance and am now convinced and have been since we married that God had a plan and put her in my life. M.S. is a terrible disease, it has taken away most of my physical ability and the things that I have always enjoyed...hunting, fishing, attending some sporting events, etc. like I used to. My wife has been there and supported me every step of the way...........she is amazing.

This is weird, but I met my wife at her father's funeral. My brother was dating this one girl and her cousin's father passed away. He needed a ride to the funeral, so since I was off that day, I took him. We met his girlfriend outside at the house where the funeral was being held. And standing there with her was a very beautiful young lady. I asked who she was and he told me. I gave her my condolences and she thanked me. We talked a little, she was crying and I didn't want to be rude and rush off. Did I mention that I hate funerals? , Anyway, we talked for about a 1/2 hour or so. That next week we met up when I took my brother to visit his GF. And things went from there.

She cheered for my basketball team in 3rd grade. We went to different elementary schools but the same high school, the rest, as they say, was her fault...;)

I met her at work. She worked in the same department, but on a different shift.

We had the same parole officer. :sssh:

We're not married yet, but my friend had a thing for her and introduced us.

The friendship I sacrificed was worth it.* :p

*We actually didn't speak for about 3 months but we are really good friends again now.

We noticed each other in church in February,1983 and married October, 1985. Two daughters and some 22 years later it's been a truly been a wonderful marriage. I am very fortunate. She is still stunningly beautiful, how I got her I will never know.:ylsuper:

I meet my husband in high school and we dated a couple of years then we broke up. Three years later we meet up with each other in a factory we worked at but on different shifts we dated for about a year then we decided to get married and have been married almost 14 years.
