Ran into Highlands 7th grade coach tonight at AAU game and he said that they are definitely considering entering the state tourney. Trying to iron out some logistics and I am sure even if it is a week or 2 prior to the start they wont turn away money. 7th Grade will be a strong tournament this year.

Does anyone know anything about the following 6th grade school teams:

Conner

Central- paintsville

McNabb- Clark Co

Rose Hill

Salyersville

Any info would be appreciated.

One of the best 6th grade teams I have seen in the Central Kentucky Area is Elkhorn Middle's (Frankfort) not sure if they are entering the KBA 6th Grade State.

Great game in Falmouth last night between the Highlands Bluebird 7th and Sharp Wildcats (PC feeder) with Sharp coming out on top 39-34. The Wildcats led after the 1st quarter relying on their bread and butter in Mason Monroe who I believe scored all of their points in that session. Highlands couldnt put the ball in the hoop and missed several open looks under the basket. They owned the offensive glass but just couldnt stick it in. I think they only scored 4 pts that qtr and still only were down by 4. The 2nd qtr was back and forth, with the Birds coming back to take the lead on some nice buckets by Luke Turner. Monroe continued to score for the Wildcats and #30 not sure of his name for Sharp but he hit the last 5 points of the qtr to put them up 19-14 at the half. The first was an open 3 pointer and the 2nd basket was a nice cut down the lane where Highlands was in a 1-3-1 staring at the ball when it went to the corner. That was key for Sharp going into the break.

The 3rd qtr was big for Highlands as they came out burying shots and regaining the lead. McCoy and True's shots in the lane started to fall but they still didnt have the knack for finding the loose balls as they seemed to end up in #41 Harpers hands everytime in the lane where he did a nice job of sticking it in. I think that boy had 8 pts in the 3rd qtr as the Birds did a pretty good job of shuttind down Monroe that period.

I'm not sure but I think it was tied or the Wildcats led by 1 after the 3rd qtr. It was a great atmosphere down at Sharp, very good fan support and the Birds brought theirs as well. The Birds just couldnt get their defense on track and credit Sharp for going to their main man Monroe in the 4th. He ran the point but several times gave it up only to make nice cuts to the basket and catch our defenders with their head turned, not seeing the pass being made. Harper once again hit a big shot in the lane for Sharp and they maintained their lead most of the qtr. Richie Whitford came off the bench for Highlands to provide a spark, hitting a huge 3 pointer from way downtown and then converting 2 free throws in just 40 seconds cutting the lead to 1pt with just over a minute to go. Sharp did a good job though of breaking the Bird press as they got sucked up a couple times and Sharp found the open man streaking the basket for 2 wide open layups. Still down 5 with 30 seconds left Bailey Witte hit a tough 3 pter with a hand in his face to cut it to 3 pts with 15 sec left. Birds called a timeout and a controversial call on the inbounds where Witte tied up Monroe and there was a scramble for the ball on the floor. I thought it was a loose ball but they called Witte for a foul and sent Monroe to the line. Mason iced it with the 2 free throws making the final score 39-34 as the Birds threw up a desperation 3 as the clock ran out. Overall I thought the officiating was pretty decent and not what I expected. They missed a few calls but that is going to happen, overall they let em play in the paint and didnt have a quick whistle out front. Some calls that they did make made you kind of scratch your head but oh well. Leading scorers for Sharp were Monroe with double figures and Harper who had 12pts and once again played a huge role. Highlands I believe was led by McCoy and Turner. They rotated 10 kids in the whole night so I dont think anyone reached double figures, many with 6 or 8.

One particular play in the first half I thought I would mention that was suspect but mainly very impressive was when Nick True, the Birds big 6'1 190lb Center battled Sharp's Jackson Strong for an offensive rebound. The two got tangled up and True literally ripped the ball carrying Strong over his back and slamming him onto the floor like a body slam. This STrong kid is no slouch going about 6'0 160lbs himself but he bounced right up and is a very tough kid. They called a jump ball and gave the ball to Sharp. Not a game changing event but really showed tremendous strength on the part of Nick True.

Congrats to both teams for playing a competetive game and they both should be proud of their boys.

Very good game in Falmouth last night! Both teams are very good teams and will have a very bright future if things continue the way they are now! I felt that the Wildcats would get this win and they did. These teams battle and could battle for years to come!

Sharp only had 4 players score in the game against Highlands last night: Monroe, Harper, Appleman, and the big boy Smith.

Ok, so Smith is the big boy. He was the key in the game IMO. He pickd up loose balls and stuck em in when the Birds must have had 10 offensive rebounds in the 1st qtr and couldnt buy a basket. Monroe was going to get his points and he is very good dont get me wrong but eliminating half of Smith's points would have won the game for the Birds, not to mention making a few layups from 2ft in the 1st half. I was just glad it was a 1pt game with a couple minutes to go in the 4th.

PC is going to have to count heavily on this 7th grade class so I wish them the best.

Highlands 7th grade beat St. Pius tonight 48-11. The three 6th graders all got a ton fo playing time and played well in this one led by the smallest kid on the floor in B.B Buten with 12 pts, Andy Buten and Drew Houliston also played well.

Twenhofel 7th grade beat Newport tonight by 20. It was a tie game at half and they just poured it on after that.

Nice analysis of the game qryche11:thumb:

The atmosphere was excellent and the music wasn't bad either:cool:

The crowd last night was bigger than what has been showing up for the High School games.

Harper is number 30 and he scored the 5 points before the half. Which was key.He was the one that was accidently poked and scratched in the eye last night. Smith is # 41 and continues to make big baskets against the Birds. I have a feeling we will see the Birds again at Sharp this year:D

By the way do the Birds not have Blue traveling uniforms?

Tell that AD to let loose of some of that football money and buy those boys some road uniforms.

CC Purple 6th and 7th won tonight at Woodland. 7th grade won by about 15 (pulled starters for most of 4th quarter).

What grade?

Frazen does a nice job with his kids. I was there last night and the coach for Holmes tries to coach by scaring the kids into playing his way. He had a kid on the sixth grade team that had six offensive rebounds the first four minutes of the game but couldn't convert them into points. He took the kid out and just screamed at him for missing shots. How about a little praise for six offensive rebounds. Summit View 7th grade team has a few nice players. Will these kids go the Simon Kenton?
