Here is what I know about the 7th graders.

Campbell County - Campbell Purple beat Summit View and Bracken County and battle Twenhofel in the Championship tomorrow. They beat St Marys and CC Gold.

Williamstown - The 7th grade Wolfpack have been beating everyone soundly. They are an extremely impressive team.

Didn't Bracken County beat Williamstown just last weekend by like 20 points. You must be thinking about another school or grade.

The McCreary tournament that AverageJoesGym posted about was an 8th grade tournament. I really thought Meece would beat Wayne Co. in the finals. South Laurel lost to Whitley Co. by 1, lost to Wayne Co. by 3 and defeated Williamsburg by around 30.

Wayne Co. must be very good. Isnt Meece the team with the Somerset kids that have won the Div 2 AAU state? Although, playing a triple overtime game will take it out of a most 7th graders, especially if they don't go very deep.

Who are some of the kids on the Wayne Co team that are excelling this season at the 7th grade level?

This was an 8th grade tournament. Meece 7th is the team that won the D2 state.

Wayne Co. played a very good game and we just didn't have our legs. D.J. Townsend ended up shooting something like 5-22. We had been 5-0 against Wayne over the last couple of years but all of the games except one had been close, they just had a little more gas and played a better game yesterday.

Highlands 7th grade suffered their first loss of the season to Tichenor in the finals of the ST. Henry Crusader Classic. They fall to 5-1 so far early in the season. Congatulations to the Tichenor team and their coach. They had a good game plan and #15 whose name is Nico is a very good ballplayer. He lit it up tonight from wherever he wanted.

Back and forth most of game I believe Highlands led by 2 at the half on a big 3 pointer with 8 seconds left to shift the momentum. Tichenor won the 3rd qtr leading by 2 to start the 4th. They pulled away hitting their free throws in the 4th qtr. Highlands two big men fouled out, one in the 3rd qtr and the other early in the 4th. HMS missed 7 free throws in the first half and maybe shot 50% for the game. I think the final was 51-42 Tichenor. Donovan McCoy led the Birds with 12 pts. A good game played by both teams, excellent hustle and they should face each other in regular league play later in the year. Should be a good one.

Highlands next game is Tuesday at home vs. IHM.

Congrats to the Birds. Did some of the players have to sit on the stage?:D

j/k. BTW Tichenor and HMS do not play in the same league. Isn't Tichenor a Boone County School?

Georgetown Middle beat Mason County in both 7th and 8th yesterday at East Jessamine.

Here are results from yesterday in Campbell County and Williamstown for 7th graders.

CC - Twenhofel beat CC Purple by 12 in the finals. Summit View beat St Marys in the other game (I think by four).

Williamstown - Pendleton County and Conner had a great double OT game. PC ended up winning by 7. Wolfpack beat Harrison by a good margin. In the finals, Wolfpack beat Pendleton by 20ish.

It was a great weekend for MS basketball.

They are a kenton Co school, Lloyd feeder and I thought they were on the HMS schedule but looks like they arent after just viewing it. Oh well, these boys will see each other down the road whether its playing summer ball or Blacktop league. I do remember a few of them from that league played out in Erlanger this past fall. They have a very nice team, play aggressive and will scrap til the end. I'd love to have their point guard any day of the week, he is a playmaker.

Thanks for the update, good to hear that these are all very competetive teams up here in NKY. Highlands has Twenhofel , CC purple, PC, Summit view and Conner on their schedule this year. Should be some good games.

They actually had a Couch up on the stage where they raffled off tickets for a chance to watch the game from that spot. ONe of our parents won and sat there with their kids, it was hilarious. That St. Henry gym is very small and makes it tough for any team to break a press. Playing during the daytime was also weird as there was a lot of glares through the windows and made it tough to see the rims on one end of the floor.

You cannot have 15 kids on a team that plays 25 to 40 games per year. The more games the kids sit, the more upset parents become.

The coach needs to make the tough choices and cut the roster to 9 or 10 to be fair to the best 9 or 10.

In a perfect world, 9 or 10 kids is good depth. The problem is, injuries, etc., can limit available players during the season. For example, Summit View's 8th grade team started with 14 players. Due to 4 players being injured (three starters), they only have 10 players available right now for at least the next few weeks, maybe longer. If they had only kept 9 or 10, they would be down to 5 or 6 players for an extended period of team. They aren't going to hold tryouts during the season as circumstances dictate, so the added depth will be key right now.

Sometimes a team will have great health all year, and sometimes it won't. The problem is, you can't predict.

Why don't Kenton County schools play Boone County schools this year?

Meece Middle took 2 out of 3 at South Laurel tonight. The 6th grade Jumpers won by 20, the 8th grade Jumpers won by 16 while South took the 7th grade game by 2. Meece's 6th grade is now 2-0, the 7th grade 1-1 and the 8th grade 4-1.
