Highlands 8th grade team started off the Mike Vories era with a win against St. Catherine in the first round of their tournament. They move on to play Tichenor tonight at 7:15.

Keep us posted on the 8th grade team, I peeked my head in last night and saw they had a close game with Tichenor. Kids told me they ended up losing by 2pts but from what I saw Tichenor had a couple very athletic kids. Jake True is a stud on the court as well, he looks to go about 6'1 190lbs and will only get better.

Highlands 7th grade play in the Erlanger Classic this weekend. Two games on Saturday. 2pm vs. Tichenor and 4pm vs. R.A Jones. Teams participating are Camp Ernst Middle, Woodland, HMS, R.A Jones, Tichenor and Mason Co.

Yes the 8th grade team did end up losing by 2 points. Had several chances to tie the game from the 1 minute mark on, but never got a very good look at the basket. I was impressed by the True kid as well as Drew Freyberger, each of which made several nice moves around the basket. They play tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. against St. Joe's Crescent Springs.

I heard the same thing about Freyburger. He doesnt have much size but he plays aggressively. I heard they lost this morning to St. Joes. Looks like this is a pretty nice tourney, games going on all day up at HMS.

Charlie Reekers was impressive also. Hit the buzzer shot to put in 2nd OT today.

Reekers is a good ballplayer, he has a nice handle around the basket.

HMS 7th graders beat Tichenor today 31-28 and smoked R.A Jones 35 -8. Im starting to agree with some of those on here that said 15 kids is too many on a roster. Hurts with continuity, especially when 12-14 of them are being used throughout the game. In blowouts it hurts the starters as well as they sit most of the game.

I watched some of the Camp Ernst 7th grade game vs. Mason Co and was very impressed with their size. They must have had 4-5 kids atleast 6 foot tall. Where will this school feed to? A guy next to me said he thinks Ryle but it seems that CampErnst is over in Burlington. Wouldnt that be a feeder for Conner?

South Laurel Middle hosted McCreary Central and Page today. South's 6th won both games easily. South's 7th defeated Page 64-15 and then defeated a very good McCreary Central 7th grade team 40-29. South 8th grade defeated Page 53-22 and lost to McCreary's 8th 44-41.

Southern Middle 8th should be one of the top teams in the state, with the twins leading the way.....Although a post in the boys basketball forum said they may get a look at the JV-varsity level....If that happens, their stock will drop....

Are the twins playing 8th grade this year or did they get moved up?

Well, I am limited on what knowledge I have of teams in NKY. I am guessing the stronger teams will be the following.

Woodland and Summit Middle- Simon Kenton Feeder

Ockerman- Boone Co feeder

Highlands will be good but we are still waiting for a couple kids to grow. They will be very deep with 8-10 kids with extensive AAU experience and a new transfer who they say is 6'1. Several kids with 7th grade game experience (played as 6th graders) and guard position will be their strength. Tryouts are this week and there are several kids who can play in this grade and the competition will be fierce. There will be some unhappy kids unfortunatly walking out on the last day of tryouts. They technically could put 2 teams together with this year's 7th grade class.

Highlands 8th graders will struggle but they have an excellent first year coach in Mike Vories. They dont have much size and struggle at point guard which is not a good recipe. They have 3 kids who can play well but are more 2-3 spot players in Pat Towles, Charlie Reekers and Grant Duesing. They apparently have a transfer as well who is the 7th grader above's brother. He goes about 6'2 195 and will be a major plus to this group. I hear he is very athletic.

Campbell Co- 7th grade team will have McGovney who is an excellent player and played for Kings AAU Team.

Pendleton co- 7th graders are good and have Mason Monroe (G-town thunder) as their go to guy. That is if they dont move him up to play Frosh/JV. He is that good. 8th grade PC will have Corey Gregg but he is another kid that could be playing at the Frosh/JV level right now.

Several Catholic schools will field decent teams. St. Mary's 7th grade will have a couple nice players in Ben Uebel and Justin Saunders. St. Catherine will have Devoto who can score in bunches and shoots well.

It should be a fun season up here.

I will keep you all posted down south as the season goes along on who the standouts are going to be. Keep us posted on those Somerset AAU kids. I am guessing they go to Meece or Southern. Where does Tyler Gover play?

Bracken County played in Harrison County this past weekend in a tourney.

The 7th grade beat Pendleton by 1 in over-time and Williamstown by double digits on Saturday. Lost to Campbell county by 1 in over-time on Sunday. Is McGovney #20 tall, and handles the ball if so he is a good player, also was that Mike Conway from Mason County coaching Campbell's 7th grade?

Believe so. His son has also been coaching there.

Wow, Polar Bears must have a good team because I know the PC Wildcats are huge this year and have an excellent guard in Mason Monroe.

MCgovney has been a thorn in our side for past 3 yrs in AAU ball when he played for the Kings. He is tall, athletic and goes hard to the hole. If you get physical with him sometimes you can get in his head but he will definitely be a player for the Camels.

Highlands 7th play in 2nd round of ST. Henry tourney tonight vs. Villa Madonna. HMS is 3-0 to this point but not playing anywhere near their potential. Winner plays this Friday night at 6pm vs. winner of St. Mary and Blessed Sac. Winner of that advances to finals on Sunday afternoon.

Bracken Co. 7th is a good team. I saw them a couple of weeks ago and they're pretty impressive.
