Which should be better this year Scott Co. Middle or Georgetown Middle? Do either schools have a 6th grade team or are they only 7th and 8th?

GMS will have the better 8th (they were second in the state last year minus Walls little brother) There is talk that up to four of the 8th graders from GMS could be pulled up to the Freshman team

SCMS will have a better 7th

SC School District does not allow for 6th grade teams.

Shannon Fraley is coaching the freshman at the high school. His brother John Fraley is coaching the middle school.

Thanks for the clarification.:thumb:

You are correct in this being a good team. The group had an outstanding season last year and are returning the starters for another season. Monroe did a great job as go to for the wildcats and the thunder. I don't think he will move to Freshman or JV this year, even though he, Corey Gregg, and Jackson Strong practiced with the high school team during spring ball and through the summer. As you stated Corey is gone. PC fans are looking for good things to come from this class.

The Highlands boys are looking forward to some epic games with the PC boys, looking at the schedule they are definitely one of the better teams we will face.

Rosters were made yesterday for the HMS 7th grade. Kept 15 kids I think my boy said and 2 6th graders who are pretty nice guards. Tons of athleticism on this squad and 6 returning players who earned a lot of playing time last year as 6th graders. Add in the 6'1 kid who transferred in along with a couple of other pleasantly surprising big kids and they should be very strong.

Its too bad they couldnt field two teams because a couple kids that didnt make it probably could have and they could have split it into two teams of 8 or 9. Hopefully those boys will keep working hard and come back next season.

Any information on Newport Middle school? They usually have some good teams.

You guys going to let your friends at Campbell County out do you. They have 2 teams per grade level.

South Laurel's 7th grade started their basketball try outs today, has any one else started yet.

Last years guys looked good, except the football players looked a little rusty.

This years team is bigger, faster and stronger, they will be fun to watch if the stay health all season.

Yup and they are a much bigger school. Our boys start in the St. Henry Crusader Classic next Friday. Coach told me that the schedule for the 7th Grade Birds will be loaded this year with several tournaments in November and some of the Kenton/Boone Schools. I am just glad that we will be playing the Twenhofel's, Summit View's, R.A Jones, Gray's, Turkeyfoot, etc....Although they are not in our conference we will see them atleast one time on the schedule.

How many games does PC usually play in a season?

Well, I am limited on what knowledge I have of teams in NKY. I am guessing the stronger teams will be the following.

Woodland and Summit Middle- Simon Kenton Feeder

Ockerman- Boone Co feeder

Highlands will be good but we are still waiting for a couple kids to grow. They will be very deep with 8-10 kids with extensive AAU experience and a new transfer who they say is 6'1. Several kids with 7th grade game experience (played as 6th graders) and guard position will be their strength. Tryouts are this week and there are several kids who can play in this grade and the competition will be fierce. There will be some unhappy kids unfortunatly walking out on the last day of tryouts. They technically could put 2 teams together with this year's 7th grade class.

Highlands 8th graders will struggle but they have an excellent first year coach in Mike Vories. They dont have much size and struggle at point guard which is not a good recipe. They have 3 kids who can play well but are more 2-3 spot players in Pat Towles, Charlie Reekers and Grant Duesing. They apparently have a transfer as well who is the 7th grader above's brother. He goes about 6'2 195 and will be a major plus to this group. I hear he is very athletic.

Campbell Co- 7th grade team will have McGovney who is an excellent player and played for Kings AAU Team.

Pendleton co- 7th graders are good and have Mason Monroe (G-town thunder) as their go to guy. That is if they dont move him up to play Frosh/JV. He is that good. 8th grade PC will have Corey Gregg but he is another kid that could be playing at the Frosh/JV level right now.

Several Catholic schools will field decent teams. St. Mary's 7th grade will have a couple nice players in Ben Uebel and Justin Saunders. St. Catherine will have Devoto who can score in bunches and shoots well.

It should be a fun season up here.

I will keep you all posted down south as the season goes along on who the standouts are going to be. Keep us posted on those Somerset AAU kids. I am guessing they go to Meece or Southern. Where does Tyler Gover play?

My son is pushing 6'2" and plays basketball. Been trying to find him an AAU team to play for but no luck so far. It is possible that he may be transferring next year to Highlands. So it sounds like you guys know your AAU please help me find him a team.

15 is entirely too many. Its a no-win situation. If you're going to have 15, keep 3 more and make 2 teams like CC does. 10 is a struggle for a coach. 15 is going to be a wasted year for about 6 boys OR the coach is going to hear complaints about the best players not getting enough PT.

Poor decision.

Absolutely our Middle School coach's believe 10 or 12 is plenty of kids on their teams. They ask the kids the cut to find travel team or play for community sports teams etc.. They tell the kids the cut what the need to work on to be more completive for next year try outs.

Parents will complain if their child is on the team an gets no playing time.

I think the kids that get cut and finds them a team to play on has a better chance of improving. Than a kid that sets on the end of a bench all year and get little or no playing time.

You cannot have 15 kids on a team that plays 25 to 40 games per year. The more games the kids sit, the more upset parents become.

The coach needs to make the tough choices and cut the roster to 9 or 10 to be fair to the best 9 or 10.
