Highlands 7th graders opened their season last night in the St. Henry Crusader Classic. They blew out Immaculate Heart of Mary 39-11. Your typical first game with many guys overanxious and turning the ball over but not a bad showing considering they were missing their 6'1 Center who was playing in a football championship game and their 5'10 power forward who was sick. Shot the ball very well from field at 49% and 6/12 from 3pt land. Many kids saw the floor out at the old Barn (St. Henry's old high school gym). I will never understand how they played Varsity games on that floor back in the day.

Next up for the Birds will be Villa Madonna and with a win there they will advance to play Blessed Sacrament who beat up St. Henry pretty bad 49-22.

When the Birds are at full strength they will be tough to stop.

The Kenton Co Middle schools are now in our league. That should make for an interesting tournament.

St. Joseph (Cold Spring) 8th grade just played their first game of the year in the Highland Middle School Tourney. They won 41 to 18 (played St. Thomas). I beleive they'll face off against either St. Joseph (Cresent Spring) or Grays Middle School on thursday.

Also participating in the St. Henry Invitational later on this month.

It will only help in development of your team. Typically you want to play the bigger schools and their teams. Nothing against playing the catholic school teams but in Jr. High you typically have 2 teams and unless they have an A and a B team you are playing mostly mediocre teams that are split in talent. With the County schools you atleast get one solid squad.

St. Joes 8th grade should win the Campbell Co Parochial league this year. They played "up" last year as 7th graders and held their own.

Yeah, they are pretty good. Need a little better defensive execution, but that will come.

Looking forward to some of the Ohio tournaments.

Wayne Co. 6th, 7th, and 8th swept Pulaski Co. (Northern) last week to start the season.

Southern (Southwestern Pulaski) goes to Rockcastle Co. to open their middle school season tomorrow night.

Southern Middle 8th should be one of the top teams in the state, with the twins leading the way.....Although a post in the boys basketball forum said they may get a look at the JV-varsity level....If that happens, their stock will drop....

Welcome to the board Rainman11. Dont be shy and fill us in on whats going on down in Southern KY. :thumb:

I'm actually not from the Southern KY area, I just watched the middle school state last year and loved watching Southern Middle play....They have a heck of a motion offense....They gave Georgetown Middle -- who was much more athletically gifted -- a tussle in the semis due to that offense.....

Pius , St Joe, and often times Blessed Sacrament are year in year out with the other teams they compete with in the public school league.

Highlands 8th grade team started off the Mike Vories era with a win against St. Catherine in the first round of their tournament. They move on to play Tichenor tonight at 7:15.

South Laurel Middle started their season tonight against Northern Pulaski. Northern won the 6th grade game 45-43. South's 7th won 64-29 and I cant remember the final of the 8th grade but it was similar to the 7th grade score. I did hear that Northern's 8th grade was without two of their starters tonight, not really sure, just overheard someone talking.
