RebelK tells me that her mom came through the surgery well. The trach is well positioned and functioning. The doctor thinks this will give her mom a good chance to get her lungs cleared out and improve her condition. She was on and off of the vent today. They're trying to see how long she can go on her own without the vent's assistance.

Well just keep the faith and pray that all continues to inprove.

Whew - has this been a long hard ride.......but I have to say that my mom is amazing. Today they told us that they don't think they will have to do anymore dialysis on Mom. Her labs are showing that "perhaps" dialysis has kick started her kidneys!!! Wow wouldn't this be great!!!! We aren't getting our hopes up yet but this would be so grand if she never had to have another one. She is still having trouble with her lungs and it looks as if this will be the hardest thing to take care of. She is breathing on her own (using the trach of course). She has talked a bit but she gets so scared when she tries to talk so they are just taking it slow with her. She is still in ICU and she still has a long way to go but she has proven to all of us that she is a strong strong person.

Again, Rebelk may God continue the with your Mother and your family. Like a very smart person told me one time over some things that I am going through...... "God is not going to carry you up the mountain just to throw you of of a cliff " and another favorite " I don't know what the future may hold but I know the one that holds the future".

Whew what a rollercoaster it has been but then I don't have to tell you anything.

 

We had a long talk with a caseworker today and it has been decided that Mom is well enough to go to rehab.The rehab will be done at St. Joe East in Lexington. Mom of course thought they were saying Nursing home so you can imagine how that went over:D I explained to her that this meant that they think she is ready for the next step...learning to eat, drink and talk. She has been laying in a bed for going on 5 weeks now and that hasn't helped her ability to walk so she is going to have to learn that all over again also.

 

Mom didn't seem to pleased with the idea and I decided that it was time to be completely honest with her so this is what I said to her. Mom, when we brought you to Lexington 4 weeks ago yesterday, I didn't think you would live through the day, now here we are ready for rehab. It has been a long long 5 weeks but just to hear that you are ready for rehab is a miracle to your children. After that little conversation, she agreed that this is the best next move. I know that she is scared but I just can't believe that this is going to be any worse than what she has already gone through. She doesn't have to have dialysis now (it could change at anytime) but right now she is done with that. The heart doctor says that her heart is sound. Her white cell count is 900 which is totally normal. All she has going wrong now is a lot of junk in her lungs and throat but with training, I feel sure we can work this all out.

 

A nurse told her that she is totally amazing and I will have to say that she is. If anyone doesn't believe in miracles, please stop by the hospital and look at my Mom...she is a true miracle. Please continue praying and I thank each of you for your thoughts and prayers.

Great news. I couldn't check in while I was gone. For some reason I could go just about everywhere on the net in China, but BGP would not come up!!!

 

Maybe the communists don't want their people to know that you can become close to people you have never met and have heartfelt feelings for them.:thumb::thumb:

I know you are and I thank you. This morning we walked into Mom's room and she was sitting up in a chair and when she saw us she gave us the biggest smile I've ever seen. I can't even begin to tell you how much this smile was worth to us. They had taken all the tubes out of her nose and she was so happy!!!! PT came in today and she sat on the edge of the bed for just a few minutes but they sure were a good few minutes. They seem to think that her problem with talking (she had been doing pretty good by saying a few words but hasn't been able to the last few tries) is that her trach might be too big for her. So I suppose the next step is to take this one out and insert a smaller one. She won't be going to rehab until next week now because her heart doctor doesn't want to let her go just yet. Today she asked us (we read her lips) how long she had been in the hospital and when we told her that she has been in for 5 weeks, she told us, "I really must have been sick". She doesn't know just how sick and I truly pray that she never does know. So we are on our way...it's been a long ride but it will be worth it to get her home and feeling better.
