RebelK.... so sorry to hear about what your mom is enduring. My prayers will definitely be with her and your family. God is so good to us and he does hear all the prayers being lifted up to him. Keep the faith. God will provide the strength and courage to face each day and each moment.

Things continue to be in a constant state of change for RebelK and her mother. Yesterday morning, her mom was transferred to Lexington. I asume this means the UK Medical Center. The doctor thinks that there is a chance that a heart valve he had implanted years ago is leaking. If it can be repaired, there is a possibility that things could once again improve.

I haven't talked to RebelK since then, so the situation surely has changed several times. I can't imagine what it must be like to be repeatedly thrown back and forth between hope and despair as RebelK and family have been.

All we can do is to keep hoping and praying.

RebelK, our thoughts and prayers continue for you and your family. Remember that God is in control.

Hi Guys, Whew has this been both an amazing journey and a horrible journey all at the same time. I'd love to say that this is a short story but it isn't. I will try my best to make it as short as possible. My Mom went to dialysis on Monday afternoon and they brought her back after only 2 12 hrs (it usually takes 4 hrs). They told us that they had got some test results back that they had ran on her heart and the doctor decided that he just couldn't chance leaving her on dialysis. Not long after Mom was back in her room we were called into a private room with a nurse. She told us that her test results showed that she had suffered a massive heart attack and that there was nothing that could be done for her. She said, "There is nothing that can be done for your mother's heart and she is going to pass. She might have 2 hrs, 2 days or 2 weeks...only God knows the time". She then told us that we needed to decide if we wanted her coded. I can't even begin to tell you the hurt we all felt. This was the most horrible situation that I had ever been faced with and I was completely broke. Then the lung doctor came in and basically repeated to us what this nurse had said. He told us that they were stopping all treatments for her lung and kidney problems because with her heart being in such bad shape there was no sense in continuing anything. My family spent all of Monday night just sitting there in the dark, not saying a word, because we just couldn't believe this was happening. The next morning a doctor came in and started talking about how he was going to "ship" my mom to Central Baptist in Lexington and how they were going to do a heart cath on her and would probably be doing some kind of heart procedure immediately. He told us that he thought that perhaps one of her bypasses were either thickening up or was coming apart. We just sat there with, what I feel sure, was stupid looks on our faces. I finally said, "How did we go from there is nothing to do for your mother's heart and you need to pick out her coffin to I think that they might be able to do something"? He had nothing to reply to this. We told him to get our mother ready and get her to Lexington. We got there and after about 45 minutes, the heart doctor's PA came out and said that they had done an echo and that her heart was pumping pretty good for a woman of her age with all the health problems she has. I talked to the heart doctor and when I questioned him about her heart he told me that he was more concerned with getting her kidney's ready for dialysis and to get her infection taken care of that the heart issue would wait. They also told us that she needed at least 2 pints of blood because she had lost so much blood (no one had told us this):confused: She is in ICU and this morning they did a complete dialysis on her and she did great. Her infection is only 400 points from being normal. Please don't get me wrong....my mom is a very very sick woman but I am telling you that after her dialysis she looked great and acted great. She has actually moved her head around, she tries to smile, she raises her hands (which are horribly swollen) she tells you yes and no by shaking her head. Her eyes are open and she's beautiful. They tell us that she will be there for a couple of more weeks and that she has a long road ahead of her. They have also told us that there is a chance that she might not come home. I am not getting my hopes up but she has been given a second chance and we are going to try as hard as we can to see that she sees a little bit more of life.

I am trying not to feel bad toward this hospital and their staff. I am trying my hardest to thank God for giving my mom another chance and trust me I am truly blessed that she get's to give it another shot but I am so hurt by what my brothers and sisters and I had to go through. It was an experience that I will never forget (never). I would never wish this situation on anyone and hopefully when I can find the time I can research this and see how it happened and what can be done to assure that it never happens to another family.

Thank you for your prayers and please please please continue to pray because I know that this is not going to be easy.

RebelK - Great to hear from you! I didn't expect to see you hear for a couple weeks at least. Sorry for not posting the latest info today.

Your mother has been given a wonderful gift. And even if it's only for a day, it is for a reason. Cherish every day and squeeze every bit of joy you can into each moment. This is an amazing journey you've been on. I'm sorry you and your family have had to take it; but I think you'll be better for having seen it through.

I guess you've found out that there's really only one physician you can count on 100%.

Prayer's are sent for your Mom and your family Rebelk. May she feel comfort with all the love of her family around her.

Prayers sent to you and your family from Rockcastle.

I thought I'd give a quick update on my Mom. Last Sunday she stopped breathing again and they had to put her back on the breathing machine. We had a long talk with her lung doctor yesterday and we were told that she cannot stay on the vent much longer. So after much discussion and much prayer, we have decided to let them put a trach in. This will allow her to be able to be more mobile and that's very important right now because she has to get up and start moving, even if it's a little bit, so she can try to get some stuff out of her lungs. Her infection is under control. We know what we need to do to keep her heart stable. She is doing great on her kidney dialysis but it's her lungs that is giving her the most trouble right now. She just doesn't have enough engery to get her lungs cleaned out by herself and they feel this will be the best way to do it. Her lack of engery is quite frankly a lack of blood. For some reason, she presented at this hospital with an HCT of 6, which means that she was very short on blood. Why the hospital she came from didn't know this is beyond me but right now that isn't a qreat concern of mine. They have given her a few units of blood on two occassions and she seems to be getting a bit stronger but has a long way to go. They will take her into OR tomorrow to preform this procedure, they say that they could do it in ICU but they are just too concerned about her health to risk it. The procedure will be done in the morning, so please say an extra prayer in the morning for my mom.

I'll be saying prayers for her, and for you. I think you've made the right decision. This will give her a chance to keep her lungs clear, and let them rest a little. Will she be on a vent at all?

Also, I would bet that her low blood count was due to blood loss from the kidney infection.

Consider it done, RK. I've been praying for her daily and will pray extra hard in the morning.

May God Bless you all.

We all still have you and your Mom in our prayers, just hang in there RebelK.

My prayers are with you so very much....I am going through a rought situation with my mother, though not yet near what you are going through...let's get your mom through...then get to mine :thumb:

My prayers are with you RebelK. I have been going through a similar situation with my mother in law. As it has been stated many times on here, you can handle anything with the help of friends prayers and Gods amazing grace. Hang in there and continue to be strong for you mother. From your posts, your mother seems to be an amazing and strong woman with alot of fight left in her.

Headed out the door and on my way to Central Baptist. If I understand this correctly (and I might not since I am so tired) if all this goes well this morning they will start out by letting her breath for about an hour on her own and then put her on the vent, let her breath for a while and put her on the vent. I think they will do this until they can see how long she can actually breath on her own. Yes, I do think that this is the best decision. She just cannot lay in the bed any longer because the longer she lays the more her lungs fill up and we will never get her out of the bed. As they told me, we either get her up or you are looking at about 2 months. It wasn't a hard decision to make when I heard that. I will admit that I am scared silly about this procedure this morning. Oh I know that it's a simple procedure, for anyone other than my Mom. She is just so weak and there is the bleeding issue and I suppose I just don't want to see my Mom like this. I will let BF know how it goes and he can update for me. Thank you so much for your prayers and please keep them coming!!!!

Again..God bless.....
