December 5, 200718 yr .... It was a day of thanksgiving for our family but a scary day for us all. ..... Each day gets a little better and Mom is so thankful to be home,..... She truly is a remarkable little soul and doesn't complaint about anything. I wish her recovery could be easier on her but at least we have a recovery period which is more than we were told or even thought she would have. One of the hard parts for me is not seeing Pete, my husband. I haven't seen him in 3 weeks and that's hard but sometimes in life there are more important things and at this stage that is my Mom. I have been so blessed to be married to a man who truly does understand the situation. It doesn't make it easier on either one of us but to have a man who doesn't complain is a true blessing. Wonderful news, to hear she's getting better each day. One step at a time and back to continuing like before. Hopefully the PT, will not make her extremely tired and will help her. Your husband knows and understands, your role during this. Keep on keeping on and encourage her daily. God Bless.
December 6, 200718 yr Just to let you know, I'm still thinking and praying for your Mom,thanks for the updates and don't forget that God is always good.:thumb:
December 6, 200718 yr RK, I am so very glad that your mom is home with you all and I am moved by your love and dedication for your mother. Pete's a great guy and you are more than deserving to have him since you too are such a wonderful person. I know you have faced some scary times, but you have come through for your mom with flying colors. Keep the faith and know that I have been and will continue to pray for your mom and all of you. God Bless.
December 6, 200718 yr It is scary when untrained one comes to be in a situation of the unknown. You and your sister will be blessed for this , your mother will improve with love.
December 6, 200718 yr I thought about you at lunch today RebelK. I had Melton's. If you need lunch one day while caring for you Mom and if you are in Danville, pm me the directions and place your order I will gladly deliver lunch from Meltons. I understand the reluctance to provide medical care, I was the same way when Andrew first came home from UK after his accident. Cleaning and caring for a wound that was very deep and painful for him and also giving 2 shots everyday, plus the wheelchair, potty chair, bathing and etc.. It is very scary and wears you down. It is good you have help and support. Take a few minutes everyday just for yourself to take a deep breath. God Bless and prayers are still coming from the Tater.

And judging from meeting him Friday night, I'd say Tater Tot was probably a good one.
December 6, 200718 yr Bless your heart, RK. Your rewards will be many one day, of that I'm sure. May my children love me enough to do what you are doing for your mother.

I thought of you today also when I passed by Melton's:D I had to make a quick run to the post office and I wished I could have just stopped and had a quite meal. I actually just live down the road from Melton's on East Main. I will pm you my phone number and anytime you want to stop by and meet me and my family you are most welcome to come (with a big daddy club in hand). There are days that we are really busy here with the PT's and nurses but today has been a slow day. She get's really upset when she thinks something isn't right because she is so scared that she will have to go back to the hospital. It is trying but we just try to encourage her without making her feel like a child. There were two PT's here yesterday and they are wonderful. They are both men and they worked with her for over an hour. I know it tired her out but we really have to get on this quickly because she just can't afford to lay in bed much longer. They got her to sit on the edge of her bed and even thought it was rough for her she was proud as she could be last night when she was telling everyone about it. I know this is a scary time for her also and we have to keep reminding ourselves of this. This is not about us it is all about her. The hardest part is the pressure sores that she developed in the hospital and trying to get those taken care of. It's hard to do when someone is basically flat on their back and the sores are in that same area. We all actually got some much needed sleep last night. Oh, we had to get up a few times but it was way better than no sleep or just a few hours, here and there, a night. Well my little lady has finished her lunch, so it is time to do some laundry and try to get her to take a nap. I will check back in later.......
December 22, 200718 yr Update on my Mom but first please let me say and big thank you to all of you who have PM'd me. I truly am grateful for each of you. Last Friday my sister and I noticed that Mom was bleeding from those little "old age" spots on her arms and we couldn't seem to get them to stop. Then we noticed that her urine was just plain blood. I was scared silly and it didn't take me too long to call 911. We got her to the hospital and they told us that it was a good thing that we didn't wait much longer. It seems that they had her on two many blood thinners (3) and that her blood was running like pure water. We had asked numerous times over the two weeks that we had her home if she wasn't taken too many pills to thin her blood and no one seemed to understand where we were coming from. Needless to say they immediately started an IV to get her blood thick and they put her in the hospital. She is still there today and isn't a very happy little lady. They have thickened up her blood but they still don't have it to a safe level. I told Mom today that even when bad things happen we receive blessings also. First blessing is that she didn't bleed to death. Second blessing is that while we had her in the hospital I requested to have a Speech Thep. work with her to see if she could swallow. They took her and did a test on her and Wednesday night mom ate her first "real" food in over 3 months. She has only been allowed puree food up to now. Third blessing - we asked if they could take her feeding tube out since she hasn't used it in over 7 weeks and they have ordered it to be removed. I don't know if we will have her home by Christmas but we already have our best Christmas gift ever - Mom. When she ate her first "real" food she told me that that plate of food was the best Christmas gift she had ever received. My neice brought a card by the hospital for Mom and that card said it all.......Life is full of miracles and you are our miracle. And that's exactly what she is....our miracle. Take care everyone and always tell the people you love that you love them and enjoy every hug you can get. May God bless each of you.
December 22, 200718 yr RK, you are still in our prayers. That is wondeful news.....like I have said many times before, good comes out of bad. If she had not been on too many blood thinners, those three things might not have come about until much later...."What the enemy means for bad, God means for good."....Thank God for all He has done so far and may he keep blessing and healing your mom and family. Merry Christmas, our dear friend!
January 17, 200818 yr I haven't posted any up-dates on Mom lately but thought I'd give a quick up-date now. We are still working on keeping her blood thinner levels even and it's a struggle most of the time. Mom has been flat on her back since September 22nd and hasn't responded well to her therapist who are trying so hard to get her to transfer from Bed to chair, etc, etc. She has been blessed with two wonderful and kind young men as her therapist who have worked with her 4 times (2 each) a week. Yesterday was a very difficult day because she just refused to try anything and got extremely mad each time something was mentioned. I understand that she's been really sick and continues to be really sick but she just has to get moving or else she will never get out of that bed. Yesterday was just one of those days when we all felt like we had reach the end of the road and had no opition left but one. The one opition that we've always had was putting Mom in a nursing home and letting her get rehab there. It's my understanding that they have wonderful rehab in nursing homes. We decided not to do that because we truly felt she would do better if she was home and receiving therapyhere. After a difficult session we told her that perhaps she was leaving us with an opition that we didn't want to take but would if it meant that she would get to moving. She got so mad at us all and wouldn't talk to any of us. Today was another day of therapy and I just couldn't bare for it to come. I don't know whether she thought about what she was told or what but today was a day I've looked forward to for months. Mom, with help, transferred from her bed to a chair. She then stood up with the help from her walker and with help transferred back into bed. I will not say that any of this was easy but it is a big start. I know that she is afraid of falling and I know that it isn't easy for her since she's been completely bedridden for months but today she made the first step and I am so proud of her. I pray that she continues this and she will be getting into a chair more often. If you know anyone who is taking care of an eldery parent, please say a prayer for them because I am telling you, I never knew it would be this hard.
January 17, 200818 yr Author That is huge that she got up! By taking that risk she begins to reverse the domino effect that happens when a person gets debilitated. I have to say, the first part of your post really scared me. So hearing that she got up today was a great and joyful surprise! :ylsuper:

I have to say, the first part of your post really scared me. So hearing that she got up today was a great and joyful surprise! :ylsuper: I knew you would think so. I don't know who was smiling the most, the two young men working with her, her grandson (who was here) or her two daughters. Mom wasn't smiling much because I don't think she actually believed that she did it. After she got back into bed she told us that she was really really proud of herself....as well she should have been. When the young men working with her came out of her bedroom, you wouldn't believe the smiles on their faces. One of them told me that he didn't know when the silly grin on his face would come off.
