January 17, 200818 yr Hopefully she'll improve each day. Make sure you're taking care of yourself, also.
January 17, 200818 yr I haven't posted any up-dates on Mom lately but thought I'd give a quick up-date now. We are still working on keeping her blood thinner levels even and it's a struggle most of the time. Mom has been flat on her back since September 22nd and hasn't responded well to her therapist who are trying so hard to get her to transfer from Bed to chair, etc, etc. She has been blessed with two wonderful and kind young men as her therapist who have worked with her 4 times (2 each) a week. Yesterday was a very difficult day because she just refused to try anything and got extremely mad each time something was mentioned. I understand that she's been really sick and continues to be really sick but she just has to get moving or else she will never get out of that bed. Yesterday was just one of those days when we all felt like we had reach the end of the road and had no opition left but one. The one opition that we've always had was putting Mom in a nursing home and letting her get rehab there. It's my understanding that they have wonderful rehab in nursing homes. We decided not to do that because we truly felt she would do better if she was home and receiving therapyhere. After a difficult session we told her that perhaps she was leaving us with an opition that we didn't want to take but would if it meant that she would get to moving. She got so mad at us all and wouldn't talk to any of us. Today was another day of therapy and I just couldn't bare for it to come. I don't know whether she thought about what she was told or what but today was a day I've looked forward to for months. Mom, with help, transferred from her bed to a chair. She then stood up with the help from her walker and with help transferred back into bed. I will not say that any of this was easy but it is a big start. I know that she is afraid of falling and I know that it isn't easy for her since she's been completely bedridden for months but today she made the first step and I am so proud of her. I pray that she continues this and she will be getting into a chair more often. If you know anyone who is taking care of an eldery parent, please say a prayer for them because I am telling you, I never knew it would be this hard. Bless all of you...great news. I will continue my thoughts, prayers and angels. Please keep us updated.:thumb:
January 18, 200818 yr Wonderful news, RK! Hopefully she has turned a corner for all of you. My mother is also having to deal with an elderly parent. My grandma has Alzheimer's and while she can walk and get around fine, she is extremely negative and abusive, especially to my poor mom. My mom said it's the hardest thing she has ever had to deal with. My heart goes out to you and your family.
January 18, 200818 yr It is really hard. When PH was in high school, he helped care for his grandmother...his mom was caring for her, but, had to work. Then, I dealt with my grandma when I had to go to Washington State when my mom had breast cancer(this was just a few months shy of when PH lost his legs, we did not know anything was wrong yet)....it is a heart breaking thing to go through because they are the ones that always cared for you...you hate seeing them this way. Now, as everyone has said...you need to take care of yourself as well. I did not heed that warning and I don't think I will ever recover. You stay tired and worried. Please, if nothing else, go by yourself and sit and eat...then, come home and take a long hot bath...and sleep. I never did feel like doing anything after everything settled down...I should have forced myself. Rk, also, it is ok to complain. You need to get things off your chest. If you ever need to call, please, do so. We are always thinking of you!!!

MrRk and I got a dinner trip on My Old Kentucky Home Dinner train for a wedding gift and we are taking that trip Saturday night. We know that we will freeze our heads off but we are so looking forward to going. We are then going to spend the night in Bardstown and go to mass at that wonderful church there (I can't remember the name). We've gone to mass there a number of times and are looking forward to going this Sunday. We don't take any long trips but we have decided that we have to fit in some short ones everyonce in a while and I am so excited about getting away if only for a day and a half.
January 18, 200818 yr God Bless RebelK!!!! Tater Ditto!! What Tater said. :thumb: RebelK you and your mother and family are still in my thoughts and prayers. "I don't know what the future holds but I know the one that holds the future" May God continue to bless and comfort you and your mother.
