Keep working and my thoughts are with your family and MOTHER ! ! !

Prayer's are sent to your Mom and your family RebelK. I know it is hard on your Mom and also on you.

My Mother was allowed to eat some soft "real" food today to see how well she would do and she did just great. They are going to have her continue on pureed food for breakfast and supper and eat soft food at lunch until they can do a scope to watch her eat. If she passes the scope test then I feel sure they will upgrade her food situation. They came in today and told us that she might get to come home this Friday. Oh we know that there is still so much that needs to be done for Mom but we feel that if we can just get her home she will be willing to work that much harder. We will of course have Home Health come in to help but hopefully we won't need them too long. She still isn't strong enough to stand and walk but hopefully that will change before too long. She told me today that she wants to come home and see her Christmas tree. To have Mom home will be an answer to our prayers because we never thought Mom would live this long let come home.

I don't even know where to start by saying thank you to all of you for your many prayers. All you prayers have worked and please continue to pray for her and pray that her children can continue to take care of her. We have truly been blessed and I will never forget any of you for what you have done for my Mom. GOD IS GOOD --- ALL THE TIME

I hope your Mother recovers stronger than ever. The unconditional love of a Mother, is irreplaceable and endless.

Keep being there for her and over time, hopefully she can get back to normal activities. By the way, does your Mother know how fortunate she is, to have a daughter like you.....:thumb:

Amen, Strike. That is what I have been thinking as I read this thread. RebelK, you have shown your mother unconditional love and I know you will be paid back tenfold.

Sorry I let you down on posting this great news RK.

RK, PH and I are so thankful that your mother seems to be doing so much better. I thank God for that.

I was thinking of your mom all this week. My aunt passed away and I have been very moody and down. I would like to say that with your mom, PH, BF, and others on here, it is easier to remember that God does answer prayers. There were so many prayers and believing that she would be healed that it was hard to remember that God does answer prayers. So, when my aunt passed, I would think about your mom and all the progress that she has made. Tell her thank you for her inspiration.

Prayers are still here my friend. Take care and if you need to talk, just call....will be gone most of the day today due to appts, but, you can leave a message!!! God be with you as well RK. It is really hard on the ones that are taking care of our loved ones.

I have very sad news to report today.

RebelK's mom has taken a sharp turn for the worse in the last couple days. The infection has taken over and is damaging her organ systems. Last night she suffered a massive, irreversible heart attack. She is being kept sedated today and the doctor's say there is nothing more to be done.

Tonight, the family will gather to make the final decision on resuscitation orders. Please continue to pray for RebelK and her family, as they enter the next phase of her mom's journey.

Mrs. PH - Reading your post reminded me just how far RK's family has come in this journey. Just look at this post I made on October 1, 2007. This is one time I don't mind being made to look foolish! ;)

To come home for the Christmas Season would be such a blessing to your family . My thoughts are with you and your family , stay strong.

I hope your Mother recovers stronger than ever. The unconditional love of a Mother, is irreplaceable and endless.

Keep being there for her and over time, hopefully she can get back to normal activities. By the way, does your Mother know how fortunate she is, to have a daughter like you.....:thumb:

This one absolutely says it all. Great post and comments, especially the highlighted one.

Prayers continue RebelK

I hope your Mother recovers stronger than ever. The unconditional love of a Mother, is irreplaceable and endless.

Keep being there for her and over time, hopefully she can get back to normal activities. By the way, does your Mother know how fortunate she is, to have a daughter like you.....:thumb:

Thanks but I have to tell you that I'm not the only good kid my Mom has raised. She has loved us unconditionaly and it seems that her grandchildren and her daughter's and son-in-law are among those she has loved also.

DRUM ROLL ---- I am getting ready to bring Mom home today!!!!! I really don't know if she's ready to come home but it's time for her to come home if you understand what I am saying. I truly think that she will do so much better in her own home and in her own bedroom. We have worked like little beavers getting everything ready for her. We have got all the stuff ready for her room - bed - equipment (some is still coming today) - food, etc. etc. Home Health is coming this afternoon to check her out and see what they need to do for her. I just know there are a hundred things that I am forgetting but hopefully I will get around to those. I am not able to put her in the car so they are coming to Lexington to pick Mom up in a rescue squad. I don't much think she cares how see gets home as long as she gets home.

Yesterday was a busy day. They have known for days that she is coming home and they all waiting until a hour before we were leaving to come home to come in a train me and my sister on some of her needs. I will admit that it was a bit overwhelming but I think we can do it. She did make a little progress by swinging her legs off the bed and actually helped get herself in the stand up position. I just feel that when we get some one on one therapy in all these areas she will be more mobile. They came in to do her last swallow test and she failed it, so we are back to just pureed food. I can understand, and trust me I told them this, why she failed. They made her wait a hour for her lunch, while it was sitting there her wanting to eat so badly, they brought this big machine into her room and they had all these student nurses watching and asking questions. Strangers were feeding her so the tech's could watch the screen and this upset her. They would make her take her food hold it in her mouth until they told her to swallow and then they'd discuss everything before she could get another bite. This all made me so nervous that my sister and I both left the room. Then they told her that she had failed. Well this just upset Mom so much. I told the tech that she didn't make this a situation for Mom that she felt comfortable in and that I was disappointed in how it was conducted. My sister and I told her that this is o-kay, when we get home and the tech from Home Health works with her, I just betcha she'll be eating real food soon.

Oh well, we will get everything right - eventually. I need to get dress and make my last trip (hopefully) to Lexington for a while. I will admit to anyone that this has been one long journey for me and my family but most of all for Mom. I keep telling her how very proud we are of her and we continue to encourage her each day. I truly don't think we could have made it to this point if our own family hadn't been surrounded by all the prayers from so many wonderful people. My whole family thanks each of you and we continue to ask for your prayers.

I never thought my Mom would live to make it to Lexington and now our christmas miracle is coming home.

GOD IS GOOD - ALL THE TIME

A day to rejoyce.:thumb: Prayers and angels are with you my friend.

incredible news, RK. I am overwhelmed by God's goodness! My He continue to bless your mother and give you and your sister strength!

As I told you we came home from the hospital last Friday. It was a day of thanksgiving for our family but a scary day for us all. They handed over this dear lady to me and I will be honest when I tell you that I had not a clue what to do. Mom came home with a trach and this just scared the "gravy" out of me. We were told that the home health nurse would be at the house soon after Mom got home and she didn't. She called and told us that she wouldn't be here until Saturday morning. So here we sat with no training on what to do for the trach cleaning, the scutioning (unless you call a 5 minute session with them "just" showing me and we had to clean the trach that night. We decided that it was best not to do it verus doing it wrong. So we sat up all Friday night just watching her to make sure that nothing went wrong and if something had gone wrong we would have called 911. The nurse said she would be here at 10:30 and when 10:30 came she wasn't here and it was obvious that Mom's trach needed to be cleaned and she was way past the time for suctioning. So I told my brother that I couldn't wait any longer so he and I just winged it and got it right. Oh, I didn't get it right, God guided our hands. The nurse came just as we were finishing up and she told us that we did great! The Home Health agency has been great. I truly don't know what we would have done if they weren't involved. What a true blessing these people have been to us. We have made Mom's room a mini hospital room and we are all learning what to do to care for her. I will tell you that this has been an overwheliming experience and we don't know half what we need to know. My sister and I rarely sleep more than 1 hour at a time because we are still so scared that something will go wrong. Each day gets a little better and Mom is so thankful to be home, so all our hard work is worth it to just have her in her own little bedroom. Tomorrow we start PT and I'm not looking forward to it. She still is scared to try to walk. I know it's because she's been flat on her back for over 2 months. I don't expect her to jump rope or even walk at this point in her recovery. I just hope that she can soon learn to move her body more and to help us transfer her from the bed to a bedpan, wheelchair and to her chair. The rest can come in it's own good time. She truly is a remarkable little soul and doesn't complaint about anything. I wish her recovery could be easier on her but at least we have a recovery period which is more than we were told or even thought she would have.

One of the hard parts for me is not seeing Pete, my husband. I haven't seen him in 3 weeks and that's hard but sometimes in life there are more important things and at this stage that is my Mom. I have been so blessed to be married to a man who truly does understand the situation. It doesn't make it easier on either one of us but to have a man who doesn't complain is a true blessing.

I am sorry that I haven't updated you on my situation but it has taken us this long to just get the house in order and to be quite honest ourselves in order. Please continue to pray for my Mom and please ask God to stand with my brothers and sister, my sister-in-law and my husband and myself while we try to provide the best possible care for my Mom. I thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and I am truly so grateful that I paid my first $10 a few years ago to get onto this site. What a blessing you have been to me.

MrsPH I am sorry that I haven't called but I have been so busy. I will try to call you tonight if I have a minute, if not soon. I truly wish I could be in Louisville to watch some of my favorites people's teams play against each other....GO PURPLES AND GO BLUEBIRDS!!!!!:dancingpa
