My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, RebelK.

RebelK reports today that her mom has shown some movement in her extremities and has opened her eyes. They've signed papers to hever her placed on dialysis, because her kidneys are only working at 10% right now. She is still on the ventilator, but her lungs are doing 65% of the work; so she may be able to breathe on her own soon. She will also have a CAT scan done today to rule out a stroke. Hopefully, the good news wil keep on coming in the days ahead.

May God be with her and the family, as well as the doctors. RK, of couse you are the most afraid than you have ever been, it is really hard to see someone going through all of this. It is alright to be afraid, just keep the faith. If you need anything at all, let me know.

Just spoke with RebelK. Her mom will have a tube implanted tomorrow to begin dialysis treatments. These will occur two to three times a week, as long as necessary. Her lung function is improving and she may be weened from the ventilator soon. As I told RK, if they can improve her lung function, clear up the kidney infection, and stabilize her blood levels, her kidneys may spontaneously regain near normal function.

 

I feel so connected to the struggle RK is going through right now; because it mirrors so closely what my family and I went through years ago. That's partly why I hold so much hope and faith that The Lord can (if it be his will) turn things around on a dime!

 

Rebelk really appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers! She has placed this struggle totally in God's hands. I'll keep y'all posted.

I am headed out to the hospital in just a few minutes. This is going to be a difficult day for both my mom and for her "chicks". We haven't told her yet that she is going to have a tube inplanted today and will start dialysis as soon as the tube is in. We decided not to tell her until today because we knew that she would just worry all night about it and we wanted her to have as good of a night as she could. It wasn't a difficult decision to make to start her on dialysis when the doctor gives you only two choices, dialysis or death. Her kidneys haven't been the best for a number of years but they are telling us that this horrible kidney infection all but shut down her kidneys. We talked to her nurse this morning and she told us that she is responding to their commands and had a very good night. She also told us that her gases were good (BF - please text me and tell me what the normal range for gases are). She is breathing 65% on her own and they won't try to ween her off the machine until all of this is done. Her heart rate is in the 70's. When they put her in ICU her heart rate was in the range of 30-40's. Her face, arms and hands are so swollen and to look at them just makes me cry. They tell us that as soon as they do the first dialysis today most of this fluid will be gone. Oh I pray that it does because I know it must be so uncomfortable for her.

 

My sister just told me that she is always amazed at how much prayers help. I can't tell each of you how much I appreciate your thoughts and prayers and we still continue to need them. So please take a few minutes today and say a prayer for my mom, for the doctors and nurses that are taking care of her. I know that none of you know my mom but trust me when I say she is a blessing to us and I just know that she knows that you are praying for her.

I will continue to keep your mother and family in my Prayers.

My mom came through her "small" surgery to have a cath put in for her dialysis and she had her first dialysis yesterday and came through that like the trooper she is. The dialysis took over 5 hours and she was completely wiped out so they decided to not try to ween her off the breaking machine yesterday. They waited until this morning to do that and she came off of it without any trouble at all. Most of her bloodwork has come back with flying colors except that her white blood count is up a little from yesterday. She's not quite sure who she is or where she is, she continues to tell us that she has been to Georgia (why Georgia is anyone's guess):lol:I really don't care where she traveled while they had her in her deep sedated state, as long as she came back to us. She is rambling a lot but I don't really care about that either because as long as she is able to talk, she can ramble all she wants. She seems to be having a little trouble breathing but as BF explained, it will take a while for her lungs to catch up. Since yesterday was so difficult for her they didn't do any dialysis today but I am assuming that they will be done again tomorrow.

 

I can't explain how wonderful it was to walk into her room today and see her off the breathing machine and she opened her eyes and said, "hi baby". My Mom is still very sick and has a long long way to go but she's a fighter and she will give it her best shot.

I told God Monday afternoon that if he really felt that it was time for my Mom to come home to him, then I was ready to give him to her. I only requested that he not let her suffer. This was the hardest conversation I had ever had with God and I told him that I was ready to accept his decision and know that it was the right one. I know that God answers you .....he answered me when I walked into the hospital and saw my Mom's open. He answered me when I walked in and the breathing machine was gone. And he answered me when she said, "Hi Baby". I don't know what his plan is for us but I know that he has a plan for her. I don't know how long he has given us but I can assure you that we will enjoy every minute and love her.

Just saw this and we also are lifting your family in prayer. All the people involved including the medical staff. In the book of Colossians we are told to pray for each other, and in James in our faith we also are told to pray. God hears our prayers for your Mom.
