RebelK Needs our Prayers

Featured Replies

I know you are and I thank you. This morning we walked into Mom's room and she was sitting up in a chair and when she saw us she gave us the biggest smile I've ever seen. I can't even begin to tell you how much this smile was worth to us. They had taken all the tubes out of her nose and she was so happy!!!! PT came in today and she sat on the edge of the bed for just a few minutes but they sure were a good few minutes. They seem to think that her problem with talking (she had been doing pretty good by saying a few words but hasn't been able to the last few tries) is that her trach might be too big for her. So I suppose the next step is to take this one out and insert a smaller one. She won't be going to rehab until next week now because her heart doctor doesn't want to let her go just yet. Today she asked us (we read her lips) how long she had been in the hospital and when we told her that she has been in for 5 weeks, she told us, "I really must have been sick". She doesn't know just how sick and I truly pray that she never does know. So we are on our way...it's been a long ride but it will be worth it to get her home and feeling better. May God bless each of you.
She is still in my prayers, RK. Tell her to keep the faith and keep fighting.

Thanks Hatz and I will give your thoughts to my brother!

We are at St. Joe "East" in Lexington for Rehab. We got there this tuesday and it's been a hard week. I know that you shouldn't question the people giving the care but it seems to me that they think she's there to die and I thought we were going there to rehab. I don't mean to sound hard about it but they just don't seem to care as much as I'd like for them to. I asked on tuesday, when we got there, when were they going to run an IV for her fluids and no one seemed to want to answer my question. I asked again on Wednesday and was told that they were giving her fluids through her feeding tube. Well I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but that just didn't sound right to me. Then on Thursday I asked the question and was told that they give her fluid when they give her meds and that they didn't believe in giving IV fluids. I told them that they had to do something because her kidneys depented on the fluids and if they didn't give her fluids then her kidneys were going to shut down again. On Friday, I just jerked the doctor aside and demanded to know why she wasn't being given IV fluids, "Oh, you are right, your mother is dry, so we will start some IV fluids. This was early morning and they didn't give mom fluids until well after 6 o'clock on friday night. So guess what I was told yesterday - Your mother's kidney functions are very high and we might have to make a decision about dailysis. I will have to admit that if Mom has to go back on dailysis because of these people and their lack of taking care of her, I will be highly upset. I got so upset with a nurse on Friday that I demanded that she never walk into my mom's room again. I have never seen a nurse as uncaring as this woman was and she would say such negative things around mom to the point that mom's heart rate went up and go so upset. If my Mom tells me, she still can't talk so we are still reading lips, that the nurse isn't nice to her, then it was time for this woman to take a hike.

We are encouaged with the speech Tech. She is a lovely young woman and has worked with mom and Mom has really worked hard for her. I am hoping that if Mom can work a little harder this coming week with this young woman, she just might be on the road to eating and talking.

I don't want you to think that it has all been bad and perhaps it is because we are so tired (we are starting our 7th week in the hospital) but I truly was expecting more from this place that I feel they are giving my Mom. I am going to take today off, my brother and his wife are going to stay with her today, and get some much needed rest and I will look at the situation with a rested head, and heart, tomorrow.

Please continue to pray for my mom because we are still so far away from where we want to be.

Bless your heart , we are going through something like this with my mother-in-law. It is so sad. We have been back and forth to the hospital in Pikeville for 5 weeks. I do hope your mother recovers and has a wonderful life . Just Breath.

Hi Guys, I thought I'd give you an update on my Mom. We are still at St. Joe East for rehab and it's going well. Mom is now talking and doing quite well. She still has a trach and she may come home with it because she has a sleep disorder and the trach will take care of that. She started eating food last Friday (it has to pureed right now) and is doing well with that and they will retest her this week to see if she can eat solid food. She is now breathing completely on her own (as of yesterday) and is hitting 95 and above on that which is really really good. She still cannot do a lot for herself such as walking, eating, etc. etc., but hey she has been flat on her back for 2 months so hopefuly they will get her to moving a bet more this week.

I think we are going to have to make a decision soon on what the next step is and I am not looking forward to that decision. I would love to bring her home and let Home Health come in for therapy but I feel they are going to want to send her to Cardinal Hill. I would love for her to go to Cardinal Hill but she is so looking foward to coming home and I truly think that if we told her that she had to go to a 4th hospital (so to speak) I just feel she will stop trying. So I don't know which way would be best for her. We are so very blessed to get her to this point and I don't want to upset her. So please pray that this week goes home and that we all make the best decision for Mom.

Take Care - thank you for all your prayers - please continue to pray and I hope that all of you have a blessed Thanksgiving.

These decisions are never easy. Try and discuss the various options with her, see what she wants to do.

Consult with your husband, family, doctors and clergy. It's never easy, regardless of what the final decision is. I hope things work out for the best.

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

We just went through this with my mother-in-law, she had to go to a nursing home. She was in Cardinal Hill about 7 years ago and did quite well then. They will let one out for a weekend or a day. Sure hope she can recover. Keep working and hoping and praying.

My prayers are with you and your family.....Happy Thanksgiving.

Just read this thread...Prayers to you and your mother RK. I admire your strength during your very difficult time. :thumb:

It's a tough time of the year with these feelings and issues going on. I will say a prayer for your mom and family that God's presence be felt by each of you through this. :thumb:

May God's peace be with you RebelK. Prayers from the Rambler household will continue. Thank you for te update.

Glad to see she is doing better, RK. I'm sure you will make the best decision for her and I continue to pray for her and your family. You know my number if you need to talk.

God bless.

My prayers go out RebelK. Stay strong!

Mom has been in the hospital going on 10 weeks and I see more progress each day. We had a small set back last week but we seem to be over that. Last Sunday a nurses aide fed Mom some french toast. The problem with that was that it wasn't pureed and Mom choked a little on it. They were afraid that she had aspirated it back into her lungs so they stopped her food and put her back on the feeding tube until they could decide what to do. Telling her that she couldn't eat again was one of the hardest things to deal with. She was so sad and all I could do was sit there and cry. It was decided that she was o-kay and they let her have her food back and she was a happy little woman again. We still have some stuff to work on but hopefully we will get to bring her home soon. I do know that we have a long road ahead of us when we get her home but I truly feel that if she could get home and settled she will get back to her old self soon. GOD IS GOOD ---- ALL THE TIME!!!!
