September 28, 200718 yr Congrats to the Jumpers. Looks like Meece is headed for an undefeated season. Fine group of players and seem to be very well coached. I was impressed when I seen them play Corbin last week. One thing I liked about the Meece attack was their balance. They really shared the football on offense. Four to five kids all got touches which makes it hard to key on the usual " superstar" middle school player. Good luck the rest of the way.
September 28, 200718 yr Northern split a pair of games with Wayne County last night, winning 8th grade game 22-0 and losing the 7th grade game 20-8. Northern held Wayne County to 17 total yds in second half. Shawn haste retutned a pick for a school record 108 yds to end the half.:thumb:
September 28, 200718 yr I heard Corbin defeated Glasgow this past weekend 8th grade. I was told that Glasgow was top rated team in the state, but I was not aware of any rating system in middle school ball. Anybody got any details on this game or if there is a rating system. I don't know anything about a rating system, but i do know they had only lost two games in 3 years one to Bowling Green and One to a Louisville school. 8th Grade won 22-0 the 7th grade also took one from them cant remember the score.

When we saw them earlier I thought they looked like a good team but not nearly as strong as the Hounds. Corbin has the best group in their 8th grade that I've seen the last 2 seasons.

There are probably some that either started later or went to private kindergarten or preschool then public kindergarten (that's what my son did). None of their players have turned 15 yet that I'm aware of though. That's on the 8th grade team, I don't know about the 7th graders. 15 year old 8th graders?? Does anyone have 8th graders driving to school? Anyway, with all of the talk about the holdbacks, why can't eighth graders play on freshman teams. If you have a team held back that should be in 9th grade what would be the difference? Maybe we should play by age instead of grade and allow students to play up but not down and then the whole issue of holding back would be irrelevant. It is really unfair for the kid whose school will not allow it to have to play in games with kids that should be in high school.

We don't have any 15 year old 8th graders but it would be within the rules. As long as a kid turns 19 after the shool year starts they would be allowed to play through high school. So they could turn 15 in 8th, 16 in 9th, 17 in 10th, 18 in 11th and 19 in 12th--so it would be completely legal. Actually I think that 8th graders would be allowed to play in a freshman game. If I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be) but I think the way the rule reads is that 8th graders can't play in any game (in a contact sport) that juniors and seniors could be involved in. Since several teams have juniors on their JV team that would eliminate them from playing in those games but I think that they could play in a freshman only game.
September 29, 200718 yr I don't know why you keep saying SHOULD BE in a certain grade. More people than not choose to start their children to school at a later age. Even girls that are not even involved in sports. There's nothing illegal about waiting until six to start. Nobody can stop a parent from waiting until 6 to start to kindergarten. It gives them the best academic advantage they can have. A parent doesn't even know at that time if their child will even play sports.

September 30, 200718 yr South Laurels 7th grade won 49-19 over Knox Central in the Jumble Rumble Bowl. South had 6 different kids score touch downs in the game.
