He will dress for emergency cases. I think the Bailey kid does a good job running the team. Coach Jackson has this team playing well and confident.

I had just heard some people mention the sudden changes and with the influx of 7th graders moving up this week, I thought they might replace a few more positions. Good thing these young kids are available. Regardless what you do someone will be upset. Since the 7th grade season is over I am sure some of the backups that have been working towards playing time will be none too happy. Maybe all will work out for the best.

The bad thing is that those WERE Friday night officials. I didn't recognize any of them but they all 3 said that they were on crews that do vasity games. They were very young and didn't seem to communicate very well. On one call they picked up and waved off a flag because it was on Clay's defense on a touchdown run by Meece instead of making the signal and having Meece decline it. On another play were Clay intercepted a pass after knocking Meece's receiver down a Clay player blocked below the waist on the return. The official then gave the signal for defensive pass interference and blocking below the waist on Meece which would have been offsetting penalties. However, he meant that both flags were on Clay and Meece of course took the pass interference. As far as I could tell he never went back and corrected his signals. There was another play where our running back was called out of bounds at the 6 on a touchdown run. It was right in front of me and he never got within a foot of the line. We ended up not scoring so it cost us at least 6 points. From what I understand there were supposed to be 2 more officials there but they didn't show so we were left with a young, shorthanded crew. That does not in any way however, excuse the actions of the Clay coaching staff who nearly caused a riot or the fans that responded to his actions by throwing coke/water bottles onto the field. When the coach started to lose his composure in the second half his team followed suit which led to several personal fouls/unsportsmanlike calls that were well earned.

 

Not in any way condoning the actions in any way. I was trying to make the point that I am sure Coach Messmore will make sure to have a better crew. Because wether calls were against him or not, you never like to see a group of 13-15 year old kids get bad calls or no explanation of calls making them feel cheated.

I've saw a half the distance penalty on an extra point only get moved up the length of the football over there. When questioned the official said "the field is marked wrong".

My point was not how bad it is some where else. My point was that Max Messmore is a good enough man he won't stand for that, and we know that. He will have un-biased officials or at least fair minded officials next time. Because when it comes down to it, your not hurting a coach, a school, or a parent. Your hurting a 13-15 year old kid playing they're heart out. If if Coach Messmore didn't care about that he wouldn't be doing what he is doing. I am trying to calm the Corbin people that are worried and to let them know we are not worried about the officiating and neither should they.

I think this will be a good game and I too do not forsee any "officiating" issues. Meece and Corbin have had good clean competitive games for the last three years that I have been around these games. I think there is much respect between the two schools and programs.

I have been to Meece several times as a coach & fan. I must say it is probably the most even place you can go as far as officiating goes. They do a great job of getting quality refs for each game. Trust me, w/ the talent Max has over there he doesn't need any help. Good luck guys.

I do know that these refs call a lot of meece middle school football.Clay or know team has a right to act the way they did the other night.But there was some bad calls in this game.And I would hope that a ref would make a call one way or the other to detrmine the out come fo a middle school game football game. These kids pay the price just like anybody that plays the game and the kids need to make the out come what it may be. I think you should see one great middle school football game if its played the way its supposed to be and both schools are class to the best.

Ther is know 7th grader that is going to make that big of change for the 8th grade team the Metzger kid is only going to try and off set some size. Coach Jakson plans on using every kid he has is someway weather it be special teams or what I think he is going to play the davis kid some on offense and defense the miller kid and healton kid will play back in forth on defense. Morris will be in a back up role only. The 7th is providing them with some pratice players this week and are welcome to dress for the game if they want.The Corbin coaches always invite the 7th to stay and pratice if there season is over. I heard that Clay left before the game was over, is that true ?

Officals called the game with four minutes and change left. Meece was up 34-22 at the time and were in scoring position. Clay coach appeared to blow up!!!! Players were cheering themselves or coaches getting penalties and fans from Clay county were cheering flags against thier own team. It was kind of bizare way to end. As far as the refs go there was a blatant facemask against Clay county right in front of the Meece bench that wasn't called. One call prior to the half was miscommunicated by the PA announcer due to the official pointing the wrong way and that seemed to set them off for the rest of the game. On the field both teams seemed to play hard and the game was fairly clean until late when there were some cheap shots that drew a few flags.

The officiating was not good but it did not affect the outcome of the game. I appreciate the comments about Max being honest and fair because you are right howeve he has nothing to do with scheduling the refs. That is thru the referee association and their assigning clerk. He will have a full crew there Monday night. These refs have called a couple Meece games this year and have done a very good job they just had a bad night, not necassarily with their calls but their signals and communication was terrible. A playoff game deserved better and as a Meece parent I apologize to the Clay Co. parents who deserved better and I hope no one would think that Meece coaches, parents or school officials wanted things to go the way they did.

In the SEKMSC the South Laurel Cardinals defeated the Clay County Raiders by quite a bit, I can't remember the final score if a South Laurel poster can help out.

 

In the 8th grade game Meece Middle capped an undefeated season by knocking off the Corbin Redhounds 35-24 to finish 9-0. Very hard hitting game, congrats to all four teams that played in the finals.

Congrats young Jumpers!! You played hard and earned a hard fought win!! You have made Meece fans proud for the championship and for the way you played the games!! Man is football going to be exciting in Jumper country for the next few years!! No wonder Coach Cobb stayed with the purple and gold!! Hey this team can tackle and will punish you. That is going to be fun to watch.

That was a VERY hard hitting game last night. I think my son about knocked himself out laying a block on a punt return. If the game had went another quarter I don't think he or many other of the kids had anything left. I think Trey Slaughter's kickoff return touchdown at the end of the 3rd quarter was the key play in the game. Also D.J. Townsend scoring 3 touchdowns the first 4 times he touched the ball in the first half and Taylor Speaks and Jared Price's sack, strip and recovery to set up the 2nd touchdown. Lot of big plays last night by a lot of good young players.
