In the SEKMSC the South Laurel Cardinals defeated the Clay County Raiders by quite a bit, I can't remember the final score if a South Laurel poster can help out.

 

In the 8th grade game Meece Middle capped an undefeated season by knocking off the Corbin Redhounds 35-24 to finish 9-0. Very hard hitting game, congrats to all four teams that played in the finals.

 

South Laurel defeated Clay Co. 34-12 to finish up a perfect season at 12-0. I believe that this is the first South Middle football team to accomplish this.

I think you misread that last post of mine, I was saying that this was the first South Laurel Middle football team to go undefeated and win the conference.................With Corbin's and Somerset's long football tradition I am sure that they have done this before.

I've saw a half the distance penalty on an extra point only get moved up the length of the football over there. When questioned the official said "the field is marked wrong".

 

See now, there is an instance when a fan assumes his team's getting the screws when in fact their not. I talked with the official that did the game and he told me the extra point line had really been mistakenly painted on the 2 yard line. I asked him why he didn't just mark the ball on the three before the try. He said that there was no way he was going to do that because he didn't want to hear the visiting teams reaction to marking it on the four. He said "with that crowd I'd have to get out a tape measure to make my case". As his luck would have it, there's a penalty on Clay:scared:, so he moves it as close to the 1.5 as possible and you guys are still crying. With that being said, it looks like those terrible refs at Clay gave you a yard to begin with. Why would something so menial haunt you for so long? Did that extra yard you got cost your team anything? It amazes me that something like that is being talked about over a year later. After reading this thread, the break you got at Clay pales in comparison to what happened at meece.

 

Ahhh! What the heck. I'm feeling guilty about stretching the truth in this post and I've got to get it off my chest. I was the official that worked the game, you know, the big ugly one. I grant you permission to discuss any call on the field, or anything as far as that goes, with me anytime you're at Clay. Just walk right up to me (after the game of course) and speak your mind, just be civil and I'll welcome it. By the way, I know you don't believe it, but the PAT line was marked on the two, I promise.

Comment #1. The point of my post was some of you are wrongly complaining about 18" a year after there is a thread discussing poor officiating at Meece. I wasn't there so all I have to go on is what you told me in a PM and what others have told me. I know nothing about the "cheap shots and profanity". I was just comparing 18" and these posts. Apples and grapes, that's all.

Seems with all the problems with the officiating in this Conference, the coaches, Principals, etc should sit down and work somethings out before the next season. If a solution can not be arrived then perhaps the conference needs to abolish itself or certain member schools that can not exist with the improved guidelines. Just a thought. If there is this much bad blood, then it might be better to part ways while things are still civil.

Clay drew a bunch of unsportsmanlike and personal foul calls again once the game was out of reach and this game was also ended early. It seems to be a pattern. Ask Hoops22 or one of the South Laurel parents.

I will trust you on the officiating. But there is no place in sports for extreme profanity, throwing objects on the field of play and other alleged actions I have read on this thread. Competition and wanting to win is one thing. If the adults and coaches around the game can not control themselves then how can we expect the children to act the right way? I witnessed some very poor officiating at the middle school games I attended this season. I did not see any games called at Clay, but I did see them called at most every venue. From top to bottom it left much to be desired IMO.

Meece plays as hard as any middle school team that I've seen play in a long time. While the officiating might not have been the best, the kids had nothing to do with it. They beat all teams in the conference twice. They beat N Laurel, Clay and Corbin away during regular season. They won the tournament. Let them enjoy it. They deserve it. Next year they will be in high school and middle school will go at it again.....different players, different parents (maybe), and hopefully different officials. This was Meece's year. I'm sure they felt bad when they got beat in the tournament last year. Wonder if they blamed it on the officiating?

Last year came down to Corbin converting an 18 yard 2 point conversion and stopping Meece twice on their 2 different 2 point chances--they were the better team that night.

If that had been explained prior to or during the game it would have been great. Half the distance is half the distance. If the officials had done the right thing to begin with ( put the ball on the three) it would not have mattered. The 18" means nothing to me I was just using it as one example where we have gotten a bad call that cost us a chance at the game. If you remember we were stopped less than a foot short on the tying 2 point try. Clay had negative yards for the game, (score came on a kick off return) and could not move the ball. From then on we got 3 or 4 penalties that helped Clay hold onto the ball at the end of the game (I am not saying they were bad calls, that is just the only way they were able to sustain a drive all night).
