The 7th grade finals are now set as South Laurel defeated Meece 28-12 in the first semi-final today. South Laurel improves to 10-0 with todays win. Clay Co. defeated Corbin 12-6 in the other semi-final. The 7th grade finals will be South Laurel and Clay Co. Where and when will be determined after the Clay Co.-Meece 8th grade game.

Have you heard any rumors on when the finals might be played? I don't think they'll play Thursday no matter who wins Monday.

I did hear someone say Thursday night will be the finals..........If Meece wins Monday then the finals will be at Meece and if Clay wins, the finals will be at Corbin.

I know that they were scheduled for Thursday but since the Clay/Meece game isn't until Monday I didn't think they'd have to turn around and play on 2 days rest in the finals. Something like this happened last year and the finals were pushed back til the next Monday.

That's what I figure will happen, but I was listening to one of the Meece asst. coaches tell someone that the finals would be played at Meece on Thursday as long as they won Monday. If they move the games back hopefully it will be Saturday.

I would say the host school will have the final say as to when the finals are played. If Meece handles Clay as I suspect they will, then the Meece and Corbin Coaches can work out a date that is favorable to all involved. We played alot of the Monday, Thursday games during the season as well as a couple Thursday and Saturday contests. I really do not see why the would want to move the finals unless weather or scheduling conflicts are present.

Any word on how the 7th grade games went today at So. Laurel?

I wouldn't think it would be a big deal if both teams had to do the 2 days rest thing but for one team to be off for a week and the other team to have to come back on two days rest would be a huge advantage for the rested team.

Meece should win the title even if they had to play on back to back nights from what I have seen thus far....lol

Rest is for us old folks. These kids can have a day or two and they are as good as new. Playing at home should be a big factor for Meece. I think you have no worries AverageJoe. No Cutblocks from the tightend position as also:p.....lol

LOL, its been a great season for the Jumpers however it turns out. Injuries have hurt the Redhounds but they've still managed to get to the conference finals--I hope all the injured heal quickly with no lingering effects. #77 for the Jumpers has enough trouble fighting off those offensive tackle--a cut blockin' tight end might do him in--lol.

I have talked to the New Harlan Coach about a game with Meece and he showed me where he had responded to a e-mail with available dates for this season and did not get a return. I have watched these coaches and teams for several years now and know that they are always looking for good ballgames. If they are not able to get together this year than maybe they can hook up next season. Sounds like it would be a heck of a ballgame.

I'm not sure who he would have emailed. None of the Meece Staff are teachers. I emailed the New Harlan coach at the address given to me by one of the 5/6 grade coaches but never heard back. It would have been hard to get anything done this season anyway. Williamsburg cancelled on us at the last minute in our last regular season game and we were trying to avoid a 3 week layoff with a cancelled game and fall break--there was only a 2 day window or so to get something lined up. If they're interested in playing PM me and I'll get the info to Meece's staff for next season.

Harlan Independent is still looking for a game Oct. 25 or 27...anyone that is not in a playoff game this week and maybe wants one more game before they hang it up, please reply or PM me. Thanks.

I will get the contact information for the coaches and let them know and see if we can work something out for next year.
