Youth Coach I am sure that I can talk the New Harlan Coaching Staff into playing on the 25 or the 27 in a 5/6 and 7/8 grade game. They just finished their season up Saturday and won their conference championship with both teams. I am sure that They have one more in them. IF you are really wanting a game let me know and I will get to work on it.

Meece 8th grade 34 Clay 22 game stopped by officials with about 4 minutes left. Seems Clay coach told an young official where to stick his penalties, Official told me after the game. Score was 34-22 at the half and was uneventful scoring wise in the second half.

 

Meece will now play Corbin in the Conference finals, (nice seeing the Corbin coaches here supporting us tonight).

They'll be played next Monday night, October 29th. 7th Grade at 6pm 8th grade 20 minutes after the end of the 7th grade game.

Meece has nothing to worry about though. Home field and a full week of rest. They had the best team during the regular season and I feel they will win the playoffs as well. Of course, another week of practice will give the Hounds some more practice and the new players a chance to fit in their new positions also. If I were Meece, I would have played the game as early as possible, but what the heck do I know about things.

With the weather this week I don't think they had any choice. The varsity staff didn't want two games played on the field Thursday night before the SHS/Corbin varsity game (I can't really blame them for that) and neither middle school coach wanted to play on Saturday. One of Corbin's coaches said that he thought Smith would be back Monday--what do you think? As for the officiating, I've seen better but of all teams Clay Co shouldn't complain about middle school officiating--you know what they say about Karma.

I can not see Vorbeck broken bone in shoulder, West broken hand or Smith dislocated knee playing the rest of the season. All three are good athletes in other sports and have a bright future ahead of them. To risk further injury by bringing them back premature is without question not going to happen. I could be wrong but the coaches, parents and players all know there are bigger things in life than a middle school championship ahead for these young men. Corbin has some talented players remaining and they will bond together to attempt to win regardless of who plays or who sits this one out.

 

I can agree with not wanting to mess the field up. Somerset will more than likely host a couple of playoff games and the wet conditions will hurt the field, the gate and the overall play. Moving it back makes sense for all involved.

West has a broken finger. And Smith was punting footballs a practice. and looks to be doing fine. Vorbeck has a terrible injury.But I can agree on bigger and better things down the road.I know that if Smith plays it will only be in limited action.The metzger kid will play some off the 7thI heard he is a big tight end.

Heard alot of complaints about the officials during the Somerset vs. Clay game. Let me first start by saying I am very unbiased in this situation. Clay had every reason to be upset and then some. I know Coach Messmore and know he is classy enough to not to tarnish his reputation with a officiating crew heading up that fiasco. I am sure he will replace the young crew he had there Monday night with a much more experienced and mature Friday night officiating crew to call the games on Monday. Coach Messmore was right he can only coach his team not the referee's, but he does pay his referee's and I am sure he wants a very equally called game on Monday; so I am sure he will get the best qualified officials he can get.

He will dress for emergency cases. I think the Bailey kid does a good job running the team. Coach Jackson has this team playing well and confident.

First let me say that I don't have a child playing or even in school for that matter but I was at the Meece-Clay Co. game last night. I love football.While the officials were not the best, they missed calls for both teams. Clay Co. seemed to be upset with personal fouls/unsportsmanship calls. The best way to avoid a lot of them is for players and coaches to keep their mouths shut. I was on the Clay Co. side and can honestly say that the language used by the players and coaches was pretty bad. If you're going to say some of the things that was said you'd better not say it so the refs can hear you. If you're going to use foul language all the time you are going to get flagged for it. That's the rules. Also, the coach didn't set a very good example when he told the ref where he could stick his flag. Not once but at least three times. Not smart. I knew one of the officials by name only and he was not a Meece fan. I think he went to Southwestern. Parents from Meece didn't seem to know who they were either. Instead of complaining so much, I would suggest they get their act together and have a little more discipline. That's what got them in trouble.

The bad thing is that those WERE Friday night officials. I didn't recognize any of them but they all 3 said that they were on crews that do vasity games. They were very young and didn't seem to communicate very well. On one call they picked up and waved off a flag because it was on Clay's defense on a touchdown run by Meece instead of making the signal and having Meece decline it. On another play were Clay intercepted a pass after knocking Meece's receiver down a Clay player blocked below the waist on the return. The official then gave the signal for defensive pass interference and blocking below the waist on Meece which would have been offsetting penalties. However, he meant that both flags were on Clay and Meece of course took the pass interference. As far as I could tell he never went back and corrected his signals. There was another play where our running back was called out of bounds at the 6 on a touchdown run. It was right in front of me and he never got within a foot of the line. We ended up not scoring so it cost us at least 6 points. From what I understand there were supposed to be 2 more officials there but they didn't show so we were left with a young, shorthanded crew. That does not in any way however, excuse the actions of the Clay coaching staff who nearly caused a riot or the fans that responded to his actions by throwing coke/water bottles onto the field. When the coach started to lose his composure in the second half his team followed suit which led to several personal fouls/unsportsmanlike calls that were well earned.
