September 27, 200718 yr Yes that is turn. They will lose some players. But they have a lot of kids there and its NOT JUST ONE OR TWO players that are the team That makes a great team. They will still be strong for there class and the ones that do leave to go to a other School. I have seen that they don't get that must playing time or they stop playing around and they wish they would have stay at there School. Yes there is truth to that.... Coach Ledford and his staff are making a huge effort to keep these kids together, but they still can't seem to beat the allure of the Private schools which are rumored to be taking 2 of these great players at EMS. I hope they make a good choice and participate in something very special at FC. Time will tell if Coach Ledford and staff can compete in getting these kids. In the past Baseball and Basketball have also been harsh on the freshman football team. I know for a fact Coach Ledford encourages multi-sport athletes and works around summer schedules for those kids. Good luck to these coaches and kids hope they stay together. Go ELKS....

September 27, 200718 yr New Harlan 7th/8th defeated Letcher County 44-12 Tuesday, and play Evarts tonight. New Harlan's only loss this season has came to Bell Co., in double overtime. NH's top running back was injured early in the season with a torn ACL, but if he was healthy, I would love to NH take on Meece. Sounds like it would be a heckuva game. NH's 5/6 is still undefeated on the season. They may be the best 5/6 grade team in Southeastern Kentucky.
September 27, 200718 yr I heard Corbin defeated Glasgow this past weekend 8th grade. I was told that Glasgow was top rated team in the state, but I was not aware of any rating system in middle school ball. Anybody got any details on this game or if there is a rating system.
September 27, 200718 yr The only rating system i would know of is word of mouth and that would vary depending on who is doing the rating.:argue:

If you think you can set something up PM me and I'll put you in touch with the coach.

We saw Glasgow at the Grid O Rama or whatever it is at Campbellsville. The were a very good team but they did NOT look nearly as good as Corbin. Corbin beat the Scotties 22-8 on Saturday.
September 27, 200718 yr Do any of the surrounding states have middle school playoffs? I saw a kid a few weeks ago with a t-shirt that said something about the middle school state championships, but I did not catch which state it was.

September 27, 200718 yr I wish we had a district just like our high schools and advance through the playoffs. That would be fun but you'd end up having to class the middle schools to make it fair and some systems have multiple middle schools so that would further complicate things. To much expense involved--but I know the kids would love it.
September 27, 200718 yr It would be difficult to set up, but if other states could pull it off so could KY.
September 27, 200718 yr How do they do the middle school state tournament in basketball? Isn't it open to any team that wants to participate? I would like to see that for football too.

What would be some criteria, regarding schools, enrollment, age and participation in a MS State Tournament for Football.

It would probably work out fine if it were done the same way as basketball. It would probably to hard to have a regular season district with the same type playoff format though. They could even class the tourney if there was a wide disparity in school size--which there might not be since a lot of the bigger schools have more than one middle school.
