Northern canceled this year's game against Corbin by fax or e-mail(I forgot which, I just know they didn't bother to call) a couple of days before it was scheduled to be played.

September 21, 200718 yr Thats right the only time they will play is if they think they can beat you. Somerset has a fine team 8th grade. I'M from Corbin and wondering how no.32 for the 7th grade is doing he went out early last night in our game hope he is o.k. He should be okay--he pulled a quad in his upper thigh. Nothing serious, our 7th grade team seemed to lay down and quit after he went out though.
September 21, 200718 yr FYI, Northern has beaten Meece 3 of the last 4 games. Jumper Dad, you dont know what you are talking about. Three years ago They would not bring their players out of the locker room until the last second hoping to get rain so they could cancell, because they did not want to face Ty Perkins, Winston Hines and crew. 54-0 8th and 40-0 seventh. It was the Actions of your coaching staff and parents that got the game cancelled in the first place. Do your research before you make a statement with no facts behind them. I can assure you Northern will show up, You probally do have the better team this year but Northern dont play just when they think their team is better.:ylsuper: The only game I've been involved in was 60-8 Meece when my son was a 6th grader playing for the 7th grade team and it wasn't that close. As for the problems Northern's staff and parents should take just as much blame as anyone for that episode. It doesn't matter, we've got about 7-8 kids that dressed that night as 6th graders still on our team and they haven't forgotten. You can expect an enthuiastic greeting Saturday, they've been saving it up for 2 years.

September 21, 200718 yr I have not seen Northern play this season but unless they have some players similar to Ty Perkins and Hines then they will be facing an uphill battle if they plan to defeat Meece. Meece has a very well coached and talented football team this season. I can only hope the teams play a good, hard fought football game and that the fans act accordingly. No reason rivals like Pulaski and Somerset can not compete each season and let the best team win. All schools run thru cycles and sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you. Over the course of time, most series balance out. I am not sure why the North and Corbin games were cancelled. I am sure both sides have their own story. One thing about it, if you cancel on someone it puts them behind the eight ball when trying to fill the date. Sometimes, it is best to just part ways when things can not be worked out.
September 21, 200718 yr I didnt realize you could count to two !!::sleep: I can even count to 60, maybe even more this year.

I can assure you Northern will show up, You probally do have the better team this year but Northern dont play just when they think their team is better.:ylsuper: Actions by our coaches? I remember the Northern Coach using all of his time outs in the second half of the 8th grade game to run the score up. Why would he call a time out with less than a minute to go at midfield, up 52-8 just to get one more play off? Kind of a trick play at that just to get one more score. If there was a problem with a letter from a parent then ban them from the game. I also remember the "away" bleachers being hosed down right before the game and left soaking wet by someone right before we walked up. As far as the year before I wasn't there then. All I know was the 7th grade beat Northern by something like 60-8 with the clock running the entire second half and no time outs used. Then all of the sudden Northern said they would not play the next year. I know the head coaches from both teams had words after the game. But there was no reason not to play last year. I know some of the Northern coaches and plenty of the players and have nothing but respect for the ones I know. Have a good safe game Saturday, Go Jumpers.
September 22, 200718 yr Meece and Northern play tonight at 6:00pm. I will be there with a radio watching the Jumpers while listening to the Cats. I hope the Meece 7th grade can pull it together for a win. They have been unpredictable this year. The 8th grade is looking awsome. If they continue to play this well, Northern could be in for a long night. Go Jumpers.
September 22, 200718 yr Yep almost gametime, field looks great. Let's hope for 2 good football games!! 7th grade should be a good game, if we play hard and tackle I believe the Jumpers win and think the 8th graders name the score. Those boys do still remember and have waited for this one.
September 23, 200718 yr Meece Middle swept a pair from Northern Middle tonight to win the mythical Pulaski County Championship in both 7th and 8th grades. The 7th grade played one of their better games (after playing by far their worst Thursday against Corbin) to win 24-16. The 8th grade played probably their worst game of the year--I don't think we had our legs back after that hard fought win against the Redhounds Thursday but Northern never really threatened. The Jumpers won 20-6, Northern's touchdown came against Meece's reserves with 27 seconds left. I hope Northern's quarterback is okay. The 7th grade moves to 3-3 while the 8th grade is now 6-0. Way to go Jumpers! Both teams swept both Pulaski County schools. :thumb:
September 23, 200718 yr Good win for the Jumpers. They are a talented bunch. If they stick together and drop down to their class in the future they could be a big team at the high school level.
