August 30, 200719 yr My son's team (Boyle Middle 8th grade team) got beat yesterday by a very impressive team from Mercer County (King Middle School). Score was 18-6. However, I think the 7th grade Boyle team won their game 18-8???
August 30, 200719 yr Harlan beat Pineville 12-6 in the conference grid Saturday...plays at Middlesboro Thursday 8/30. I heard it was a heckuva coaching job by the Harlan staff...congrats! :thumb:
August 30, 200719 yr New Harlan Patriots defeated Cumberland 30-6 in the 7th/8th grade game, and 30-14 in the 5th/6th grade game. Both teams face Pennington Gap, VA tonight.
August 30, 200719 yr Rose Hill 22, Ashland 0 (8th Grade) (same score as last year) Ashland refused to play a 7th Grade game.
August 30, 200719 yr East Jessamine Middle 8th grade won on Saturday 40-0 against Marion County Patriots. And on Tuesday, both the 7th and 8th grade teams defeated Bourbon Middle. The 7th grade team shut out Bourbon and the 8th grade team won 28-12.
August 31, 200719 yr Author Watched my nephew play tonight for Rose Hill. The 8th grade defeated Lawrence Co. 20-14 in overtime and the 7th grade won 16-0. My brother told me before the game that it was the toughest place to play in eastern KY. I've seen some home cooking before, but the officials were silly. I don't pretend to know every rule, but the things that had to be argued by the coaches just to get a fair shake were silly. And the referree is a HS official from what I'm told. My advice to RH is to hurry and get your own field and play them at home once. Great game though on the field by all 4 teams. Good effort on both sides. Some of the biggest 8th graders I've ever seen for both teams.
August 31, 200719 yr Meece Middle split a pair tonight on the road at Whitley Co. The 7th grade lost 26-6 while the 8th grade shut out the Colonels 20-0. The 7th grade was overmatched and while the 8th grade didn't play their best game on offense I'll take a shutout considering we were coming off a hard fought, emotional win on Tuesday against Southern.
August 31, 200719 yr The NKY middle school games last Saturday (8/25) were cancelled. Two games were played Wednesday night at Campbell County. In the first game, NewCath beat Woodland. I believe the final was 18-6. Woodland likes to throw the ball and has a nice looking QB. NewCath has a couple of its own weapons, especially #32...he is tall, fast, and showed good hands at both RB and WR position. In the second game, Summit View beat Campbell County 28-6. CC didn't have their best game. They had a couple of unforced fumbles and even had a -3 yard punt that was returned 4 yards...crazy play, I had to watch the video a couple of times. The punter kicked the ball directly into the rushing lineman's chest. SV looked really good on offense. They had seven possessions total for the game and ended up with 4 TD's, 2 lost fumbles, and 1 taking a knee to end the game. The next set of games are scheduled for this Saturday. Two games are being played at Woodland's field (Scott HS), not sure what field the other three games on Saturday will be played at. NewCath will be playing SV at 12:30 at Woodland, and based on the games Wednesday night, this should be a good game to watch.

Just wondering how their 7th grade looks........I have heard that their 8th grade could pose as a good high school team. Their 8th grade team was pretty tough as 7th graders. We (Meece Middle-Somerset) beat them 18-12 but they had us down 12-0 after the first quarter. They had a big team but they weren't all that fast. Very physical though.
September 4, 200719 yr Knox County's middle school beat them by a similar score last week. A few years ago this would have been unheard of. I recall seeing Whitley dress more than 100 kids for a middle school game in years past. What is going on down there? Whitley County's 7th grade team beat is undefeated this year, and is very talanted. The 8th grade lacks some of the skill that the 7th has, so they have struggled. Don't worry they ship will be righted soon, its about getting better and learning, and they seem to be learning anyway.

Nothing wrong with it, wish we could do it.:confused: Why can't you do it? Not against the rules as far as I know. The extra year adds alot of maturity both physically and mentally for most male students. I personally can say several young men I have known would not have gotten the opportunity to further their playing careers and gain schlarships had they not been heldback and allowed to mature. Plus it is an extra year you get to keep them at home, which becomes more valuable as we all get older.
