However, it is just another example of how fickle this town is: They will BOO THE DICKENS out of Bonds the next three nights, mainly because he ALLEGEDLY took steroids to improve his performance. However, they LOVE a guy that spent four years (confirmed) taking enough illegal narcotics to kill himself. I'll just never understand these things.... Im going to boo Bonds not because of his alleged steroid use. im just going to boo him because i dont think he respects the history of the game and imo is just a bad representative of mlb.
July 3, 200719 yr Fair enough. I'm no fan of Bonds either, and like you, it has nothing do with what he may or may not have done with steroids. I just think it is funny that everything he does is awful and the flavor of the day in Cincy can do no wrong. ...And you know how much I love this game.
July 3, 200719 yr I don't think so at all. He has an addiction problem. B/c he's been clean for a certain amount of time doesn't mean a thing. Any little thing could cause him to go back to drugs. Bonds wanted a trainer around to keep giving him "creams" that he didn't know what were. Hamilton has a support system to stop him from dying. I know you can see the differences there. Also Hamilton is very honest. He's admitted he had a drug problem, and he rightfully admiths that he still has a drug problem. His situation is life and death not getting bigger w/o getting caught. If that's truly the case, no babysitter will help him. Marriage, kids, taxes, 0 for 13 stints. He's playing a game for a living where you must manage failure. Life will throw more curve balls than this silly profession will. I'm with HSSB on this one, he's gonna have to grow up some time. With that, I'm not against him having a babysitter, but eventually if he needs a "guru" he should pay for it out of his own pocket.

I'm not as worried about his on filed performance as some people are. He has to live his life one day at a time so he can live. Not so he can hit a baseball.

July 3, 200719 yr Define need? Hire your own darn baby-sitter if you need one. At some point the coddling of this young man will have to stop, don't you think? He has exceptional raw talent, and I hope he is a main-stay in this organization for years to come, but at some point life's training wheels need to come off. Perfect. Brandon Phillips comments, while a bit curious/mysterious, were by no means selfish. I feel like he was simply making a comment that management has done nothing while focusing on individual things (when to bring up Bailey, having Narron for Hamilton) while, in the mean time, putting a PATHETIC product on the field. On the other hand, who does Hamilton think he is? He's a grown man with a family...ACT LIKE IT. You don't need a babysitter and if you do, that's embarassing and baseball is the least of your concerns. If he's a "package deal" with Narron then grow the hell up and have some self control. Be thankful you've been given a chance to play baseball and don't think you have the clout to say you're a "package deal".

But if I did I wouldn't have the audacity to tell my employer (who graciously gave me a job) who they will or will not employ for my sake.

When I say "need," I'm going from an assumption of how an organization would potentially view a situation. An addict might have a different need than Bonds.

We probably need to cut him some slack for the actual potential need for a so-called "babysitter" but we can definitely take him to task for the outward appearance of the comments made in written form.
