Listen, I like Hamilton and loathe Barry Bonds. However, it is just another example of how fickle this town is:

 

They will BOO THE DICKENS out of Bonds the next three nights, mainly because he ALLEGEDLY took steroids to improve his performance.

 

However, they LOVE a guy that spent four years (confirmed) taking enough illegal narcotics to kill himself.

 

I'll just never understand these things....

 

In my defense, I don't dislike Bonds because he allegedly took steroids. Hell, he wasn't doing anything different than most of the league. Also, I have no doubt that he would be one of the greatest to ever play regardless of the roids.

I think BP is pretty much dead on and at this point in the year does it even matter what you are playing for now? They aren't going to contend. If he is trying to step up now the next time someone doesn't run out a ground ball I want to see him get in their face and tell them about it and I don't think thats happening. But I still like that someone said something instead of we are sorry he is gone blah blah blah.

The one key difference that can save Hamilton from this quote is that Hobbs , I'm assuming, actually NEEDS Johnny Narron. Bonds doesn't need his trainer to be around all of the time.

 

The writer, had he been thinking, should have asked a follow-up like "what if Johnny is not retained?"

I took BP's comments as being selfish.

 

IMO, the angle came from the media side of things.

What else is there to focus on with how bad this team is?

Junior's year was recognized by the fans and the pursuit of 600, plus he has played really well and stayed healthy. At least publicly he has not bemoaned the fact he was moved to right field.

 

Hamilton...is there a better feel good story that Hobbs? No...it is nothing short of miraculous what he has accomplished. He has defied all the tenets of baseball by playing a limited amount of "A' ball and performed fairly well at the big league level.

 

Bailey...many people wanted him here last year. First home grown pitching product with a chance to be a future star.

 

So...what else is there to talk about with this Reds team?

The majority of it is negative. How many more ways can the media and the fans portray the bullpen that hasn't already been done?

I got one...with the new Reds free gas promotion, fans can pick their level of gasoline and get it when the bullpen pitchers run to the mound for their relief stint with the gas cans on their back...cause they practically do it in games.

 

Everyday 8 playing hard? Scouts have said it is practically pathetic at how they are just showing up.

What it may shed light on is a divided clubhouse with a tinge of jealousy.

 

How can you be jealous of anyone when a team of players has performed to the worst record in baseball and looked bad doing it?

Fair enough. I'm no fan of Bonds either, and like you, it has nothing do with what he may or may not have done with steroids. I just think it is funny that everything he does is awful and the flavor of the day in Cincy can do no wrong.

At some point the coddling of this young man will have to stop, don't you think?

 

He has exceptional raw talent, and I hope he is a main-stay in this organization for years to come, but at some point life's training wheels need to come off.

I don't think so at all. He has an addiction problem. B/c he's been clean for a certain amount of time doesn't mean a thing. Any little thing could cause him to go back to drugs.

 

Bonds wanted a trainer around to keep giving him "creams" that he didn't know what were. Hamilton has a support system to stop him from dying. I know you can see the differences there. Also Hamilton is very honest. He's admitted he had a drug problem, and he rightfully admiths that he still has a drug problem. His situation is life and death not getting bigger w/o getting caught.
