When do you think Lexington will compete?

Featured Replies

I'm not here to put down the Louisville schools but more to defend the Lexington Schools. Dunbar played MBA last year and it was 14-7 in the 4th quarter and MBA's first touchdown came off of a punt return early in the game. Dunbar had a rough season but was in every game other than Henry Clay and just had a TON of bad turnovers and penalties in crucial situations which killed their record. If MBA can come to Dunbar and be in a dog fight I'm not ready to say that anyone would come down here and wipe the floor with Dunbar. You can say MBA was down this year but they beat Trinity the next week so, don't go thinking Dunbar is a bad football team. Things are getting better, a lot better.

Is it not accurate to say Dunbar had the makings of a good team last year, but got off to a tough start and possibly lost momentum due to losing their confidence?

I certainly thought they were a more competitive team than their record showed.

Well I can think of: Lafayette, Henry Clay, Dunbar, Bryan Station, Lexington Catholic, and probably the rest of the lexington schools. Most people in the state do that stuff. So what is your point?

This is a blatant misrepresentation of information....this is not true in any facet...I have friends on two of the above staffs...and that doesn't go down at either of those schools.

Having been able to see all the big three the last four years I disagree that Trinity has been head and shoulders above X and Male.

We have three state championships in that time period...have a winning record against both.

What are the Lexington Public Schools regulations for middle school football? I know for a fact that they kill their middle school basketball feeder schools because they limit the games they play to only in Lexington. Heck, they will not even let 7th graders press in the first half..... Just wondering if the strength/procedures of their feeder/middle school programs might be effecting high school development. We all know to be a successful team at any level you need to have a good program, not just one good team! Just my opinion....

Jefferson County does not have Middle School football. So schools like Male does not have a feeder system with the kids coming in already knowing the system. The plus side to this is that schools in Jefferson Co. can tap into a variety of Optimist League/M. Ali league teams.

That is interesting that they have no direct feeder system, do the private schools in Louisville have a middle school league or do those kids compete in these same leagues?

That doesn't necessarily put Trinity "head and shoulders above" St. Xavier and Male ... especially since two postseason wins were close calls (17-14 over St. Xavier in 2003 and 38-34 over Male last season).

Better? Yes ...

"Head and shoulders" better? Not quite ...

The Catholic grade schools have their own Athletic Association, and sports begin as early as first grade. Those kids interested in football begin playing flag football in 3rd grade, and tackle in 5th grade. The league is very competitive, divided up in divisions according to school/team size and most of the larger grade schools split their participants up into at least 2 teams (A & B for instance) and both will play full, competitive schedules. IMO, the single, most influential factor in the success of Trinity & X. Male & Manual and some of the other public schools benefit as well, but not to the degree of Trinity & X.

Lexington has competed in the past, just not at the level of some Louisville teams. Last years Henry Clay team was very talented. They had two guys who could run the ball and when they did, the Trinity fans were on pins & needles. Henry Clay has a nice complex and appeared to have a good fan support. I think the size of Lexington has too many High Schools, so the talent has spread out.

Yes we have the CSAA a lot of these kids played with or against their teammates for four years before high school.

But in this decade there has been ONE constant...and that allows for some seperation, IMO.

Yeah, but they've won and never beaten Trinity, even in Burke's senior year. Probably the best LexCath team ever. X is above Male, but clearly not trinity. Their is a little more concern over X, but Trinity is a fear here.

Well it's hard to beat a team (or lose to them) if you've never played them in a real game. Trinity and Lex. Cath. have never played in a real game.

While not taking anything away from Trinity's great run, just look at the titles X won in the 90s, and the RUs in the 00s. Male has been there. We would continue to have all Jefferson County finals if the KHSAA hadn't listenned to whining and caved in. Overall, competition in Jeff is better. I'll take Manual against most Lex schools, and maybe Central, evem though they were 3A.

The lex schools are bigger or as big as the Jeff. schools. Maybe if they played some Jeff. schools, instead of worrying about records, they would improve.

You mean, you will take Manuel and Central against the Lexington Public schools, but what about Lexington Catholic?

Think about this and Lexington FB. Has there been any posters fron Lex on the FB threads other than LexCath? Is there any interest in Lex? Except for Basketball, baseball, and soocer, do any Lex teams compete for other sports (Girls VB, Track, CC, Tennis, Golf, Swimming, wrestling, field hockey or lacrosse-they don't even have)?

An 11 point swing in two games, and we're talking about how X has dominated the last 4 years, winning three out of four titles and beating Trinity by a combined 123-92. The past 3 years of the series has it at 2-2, with X outscoring T 90-58. Unfortunately titles are what ultimately count, but to say heads and shoulders above the past couple of years is an overstatement.

Now, I for one agree that Trinity is and has been the best team in the state for a while now, I don't know what you can conclude from a scrimmage? Coaches are not playing or preparing for it like a game? Coaches are trying to see what your team has and see what players will step up? I don't think LexCath watches film of Trinity before they play, which makes a big difference.
