Some really good football players here to watch the next 3 years. 

Parker Payne played as an edge as a freshman and he’s right there with Kirtely. He should be a total stud his junior and senior year.

I was a couple few years behind Alexander The Great. There was about a 20-year span where Cov Cath played Boone County every year in the season opener. Being the season opener, that meant there wasn't any film available for the season at hand, so instead there was always a review of the films from our games against Boone from the prior few seasons. I'd be a total idiot to insinuate any kind of detraction from Shaun Alexander's obvious talent, but Boone County's offensive lines from '93 and '94 didn't ever publicly get the credit they were due. Half of their offensive plays Alexander had a hole as wide as a barn door to roll on through at the line of scrimmage.

Boone Co used to always have big strong offensive lines.  The 80's and 90's were a good time to be a running back at Boone.   That was always a big game for Coach Ray.

And somehow, it always seemed to rain. At least during the years I was there.

• I can’t remember Coach Eviston talking about a rising sophomore like he does Kiyan Miller. He must have had a great offseason and ready to be a 200+ lb battering ram at RB.

• Coach Eviston expects Owen Pitzer to be a similar level player to Michael Mayer and Willie Rodriguez. Mike is a stretch, but I think he’ll be around Willie as a high school player. He’s about 2 inches too short to get recruited like Willie did IMO.

• Dylan Courtney being a 6’3 pocket passer, but also athletic enough to throw down dunks in the varsity basketball game vs. Moeller is quite a high school QB package.

Brandon is going to be a stud the next 3 years, but it’s really, really hard to play P4! He’s got good not great size, but we will see how well he moves this year. It looks like he’s keeping his weight around 185 this year instead of closer to 200+.

I personally thought he looked like a future big nickel/Will linebacker type shooting towards around 215 pounds as he got older. If he wants to go the WR/S path, he’s gotta move a little bit better to start getting in that range of recruit and maybe he will. Especially with you see how Tyler Fryman looked athletically down the road as a freshman, future P4 receivers move differently than everyone else on the field in this area, even at a young age.

Regardless, he’ll be an awesome high school player.

I was more impressed with him on defense than offense. I see him on the defensive side of the ball.

Brandon "will be" exactly where he needs to be by the time he is a Senior with several major schools coming calling. Having been around him for the past 3 summers, his growth and speed is tracking exactly where it should be at and will be exactly where it needs to be at the end of his HS career. I will predict he plays on the defensive side of the ball at the next level and yes at a P4 school without a doubt. CCH using him on offense will just be an added weapon but not from a feature standpoint IMO. Remember his is still young having just completed his freshman season BUT playing, and starting many games on varsity as a 14 year old. Coach E doesn't do that unless there is incredible talent there.

I would say be patient because Brandon, now 15 years old, will be a MAJOR factor in CCH's success for the next 3 years.

Hey I really hope so! I always am cautious not to set too high of expectations for recruiting stuff for these kids. It won’t be a letdown if he goes to Miami Ohio.

For example - here is how a 3 star safety (Marquis Bryant) going to UK looked as a freshman in high school. Compare that to Brandon’s tape on number 2. It’s not apples to apples since Brandon is probably 2 inches taller, but clearly there’s a gap.

I compared the two Hudl links and I do not agree that there is a clear gap, in my opinion. I also looked at the competition that Bryant played in that season of film. Their competition was at .500 or below 6 out of 11 games. Smith’s freshman year competition was very much tougher( Ryle, Elder, Highlands, Beechwood, Indy Cathedral, Johnson Central, Boyle County.) While there is no doubt Bryant is talented, I think the competition should be taken into consideration when comparing.

This season, I would look for him to show that he can make an even greater impact given more opportunity. He is a good kid, hard worker.

The NCC scrimmage will tell us a lot about this year's squad on both sides of the ball. The big test is game number 1 versus the Mighty Panthers from Price Hill, when Elder rolls into Park Hills on 8/28.

I think this sophomore Class is going to shine and several will lead this squad this year, and for years to come. Roll Colonels!
