I will also add that kids from other classes will have to step up into leadership roles this year- the football senior class is small.

I believe the Colonels will shine this year and make their mark on their last year in 4A.

From what has clearly been happening in practice I think and quite frankly hope, that folks are under estimating the dramatic impact, even as a Sophomore, that B. Smith will have on every single offensive possession this season. He has been unreal and unstoppable.

For example - here is how a 3 star safety (Marquis Bryant) going to UK looked as a freshman in high school. Compare that to Brandon’s tape on number 2. It’s not apples to apples since Brandon is probably 2 inches taller, but clearly there’s a gap.

This is an apple and an orange comparison in my opinion. Yes, the young man, from North Carolina, is a very good player and was very talented as a freshman, but I could go find 100 players that didn't have great freshman tape and by the time they were Srs. were top players and heavily recruited. There are far too many variables to assess for this to be a valid reasoning why a FRESHMAN will or will not be a P4 player, most notably is where a player plays. Put Brandon across the river in Ohio and more than likely his recruitment will be much higher playing varsity as a freshman (see Roman Combs example who only played 1 year of varsity in KY).

Brandon will be just fine and he is just now fully starting to heavily focus on football training, and that is not hearsay, that is coming directly from his father. For CCH's sake, I hope he doesn't decide to give up basketball and go 100% football focus because that WILL make a huge difference is his football development.

While a mid-major offer is nothing to be ashamed of whatsoever, I think you're being pre-mature in your assessment that he won't be a P4 type player over the next 3 years if your best reasoning is some other player from a totally different region of the country who plays just outside a major metropolis and signed with UK.

Let him develop and let's see what happens...you've got 3 years.

I think we’re mostly saying the same thing. I never said he couldn’t play P4, but that he needed to develop speed wise (like you also mentioned) because otherwise he would have ran well enough to see some offers roll through after camps this summer.

My only pushback is P4 no doubt is a bit premature IMO considering how hard it is to play at that level. Now, if he looks pretty clearly like the best athlete on the field the first 4 or 5 games, I’d be thrilled and would love to change my opinion.

That is correct.

Ryle also has two scrimmages - Beechwood on Friday & Highlands next Tuesday.

Even though it is not a "scrimmage" they do have a joint practice/modified scrimmage against Conner tomorrow night.

B, unfortunately, passed away 5 years ago this coming October. This game raises money for the ALS research charity he started with his wife.
