Also relevant to that discussion, I'm also not sure whether Lee Teegarden is staying at Cov Cath or if he's headed to New Cath with Terry Brown. Coach Teegarden had a whole lot of influence on the defensive play under Coach Brown. If Teegarden is staying at Cov Cath, I don't know if he'll just defer completely to Coach Woolf to determine the defensive front, or if the alignment will end up being a product of the two of them coming to a consensus. I'd assume as DC, the alignment will be Coach Woolf's call since it's his baby, at the end of the day. But if you've got more than one guy with HFC experience working on coaching the same defense, you've gotta think they're going to be putting their heads together on things to make joint decisions a little more than they might do otherwise.

Talked to a couple of coaches in the last week. Woolf was hired with the D coordinator job in mind but it wasn't decided yet and doesn't sound like theres been any definite call made on that yet. Connecting dots I guess that means it's between him, Weinrich, and Teegarten.

I do not know anything about Carter Black so I can not say.

Welcome, Coach Weinrich and Coach Woolf.  

The defense is going to be transformed with those 2 guys. It's interesting to see a former Bluebird come over to the other side of the aisle.

A couple thoughts on the team for this year. This is a really talented roster. 

- I have high expectations for Dylan Courtney (jr.) at QB. A plus athlete with a live arm to push the ball vertically and outside the numbers is tailor made for Coach Eviston’s offense. Once he starts to fill out physically, watch out. 

- This is likely the best Cov Cath will be on the line of scrimmage in a number of years. IMO Johnny Lind (sr.) is the best lineman in a while at the school and Landon Robinson (jr.) isn’t far behind him. Sam Miller (jr.) coming up from JV will be a good starter too. I still think they are two big linemen away from being able to beat schools like Elder though. 

- The TE/LB/Edge group is loaded. Owen Pitzer (sr.), Cash Myers (jr.) and Spencer Clukey (sr.) are all big, athletic players that should be difference makers this season. Carson Grainger (so.) and Parker Payne (so.) are studs too, but will probably have to wait their turn on JV this year. 

- Adding in Mac Cogswell (sr.) and Brandon Smith (so.) to the above players and this group of pass catchers should be very tough to cover. While I think Smith will get recruited as a linebacker, he should have a big time high school receiver career as a big bodied boundary ‘X’ type and Cogswell will have a huge senior year on vertical routes with his speed. 

- Kiyan Miller (so.) should get the bulk of the carriers at RB as the first big, downhill back that they have had in a while. He really stood out the Moeller JV game last year as a freshman. 

- The secondary will be a work in progress with 3.5 new starters (Smith played a bunch at safety) and it won’t look good vs Elder, but there are enough talented players here to make it ok as the season goes along. 

- Overall, despite losing Cash Harney, Dylan Gaiser and the DC, I think the team returns a bunch of future college players and should push for 8 or 9 regular season wins and be able to make a run in the playoffs.

I pretty much agree with almost all of this.  At RB isn’t there a RB with the first name Jace that really really came on at the end of last year that may get a high number of carries?

I do believe we have some serious talent in the pipeline on both sides of the line at the incoming Freshmen and current Freshman levels…..Woolf, Dalton, Thom, Howard, Trowbridge, and Wickiser are all names to keep on eye on at both of those levels.  They may not be as big as Lind and Robinson(both will be the best in the Region), but they do have some size and all are crazy athletic.

And we have massively upgraded the Coaching Staff which will reap immediate rewards.  Best in the region there as well.

Jace Thornton ('28). I've been following his track career for three years. One of the best sprinters/horizontal jumpers in his class among footballers - quick and explosive. He's been varsity T & F since freshman year making squads that go to state.

From watching him on the CAN, I think he's been impressive on special teams and backfield, transitioning from JV. He's got a nose for the ball, so he may get a look at DB and WR? He has gotten carries on both levels. Not clear on his size currently. 

If you get a chance to watch his game footage from JV and Varsity last year, I'd be interested in @CCHFC's and your assessments.

I think Jace is a good player! My guess is you’ll see him and Brandon Smith in the secondary with a combo of a couple seniors who were blocked last year (Jason Fedor and Grant Reardon) and a couple sophomores with some ability (Jamir Kirtley and Donovan Eviston). 

I think Kirtley is going to be an outstanding DB as he gets older. 

I think this is the first time in a while where the Beechwood Tigers roster looks better on paper compared to CCH we will see if it’s enough to finally get over the hump this year though. Seniors Queen, Fryman, Arrasmith, and Pabst aren’t gonna be easy to stop at all and I don’t think that Colonel secondary will be able to stop them. CCH has to establish the run early and slow down the tempo and keep the high soaring Tigers offense off the field. Good thing is they did a really good job with that last year.

I checked Him and this is who I was thinking of…..explosive.  Wow.  He will be a starter and a key piece on both sides of both.  RB screen to Him will be unstoppable.  He may not be as shifty as Geiser, but He will attack just as well with insane get off speed.  
 

When He is a Senior He will be special to watch….

I disagree with part of this for sure…..yes Pabst, Fryman, and Arrasmith are very very special in a big big way…..but 3 guys a team does not make.  As a whole Cov Cath will be clearly better.  Queen is overrated with no movement or speed at all.  And that matters because Cov. Cath.’s front 7 will be better than last years insane group and faster and stronger.  Queen will have zero time to throw being constantly harassed by Lind and Robinson up front as there is no one on Beechwood’s line that can come close to matching up with either of those 2.

Pitzer, Payne, and Meyer’s all return at LB and all come down hill with speed and tenacity and again will over match Beechwood’s OLine and RB.  And with Lind, Robinson, and Miller anchoring our OLine, this will give our offense more than enough time to get the yardage needed to wear down an out matched Beechwood D.

Yes, those 3 skill players for Beechwood are beyond special and we are mostly young at the skills, but with Thornton, Cogswell, and Reardon backed up by our front 7 on D and our OLine, and the fact that our overall team conditioning will be miles better, I’ll take a dominant win in the trenches for Cov Cath to prevail on the scoreboard.  Might be close, but the trenches get it done for Cov Cath

I don’t know enough outside of the top 3 guys on Beechwood’s roster to comment on whether this is true or not. But imo, this is the most talent I think Cov Cath has had since at least 2020. 

There are four guys who have reported FCS or FBS offers. Yes, I know most of those probably aren’t committable yet, but the size and athleticism is there. Brandon Smith will very likely make that five at some point. Players like Dylan Courtney, Cash Myers and Kiyan Miller could easily join them or end up at a high D2 or NAIA program. That’s a lot of talent for KY 4A.
