Watching it live, I didn't question the penalty. Watching the clip, borderline call at best.

Regardless, that play didn't decide the game. It was still a catch and first down. Highlands got 15 yards closer to scoring due to the penalty.

Those 15 extra yards aided the mighty Bluebirds. I look forward to a potential round 2!

  • Very good game but the CCH defense was very perplexing to me the last :50 seconds. Why they were rushing 4 down linemen and corners not playing outside leverage was a head scratcher. The pass play tha

I'm happy to give my pointers out, and he can do with them what he'd like.  I still think, the main problem is the fact that year after year it's always been PA on the broadcast. The broadcast sh

That was an outstanding high school football game. Kudos to both teams for being well prepared and playing with 100% effort on each snap. Congrats to the Birds on pulling out the win. That was a lot m

I thank you for sharing this slowed down. After rewatching this, the call really looks to be borderline.

What an unfortunate ending to what was a great game for our Colonels. 15 extra yards after this penalty.

I cannot wait for a potential round 2! Let's keep our heads held high. With a sprit that will not die!

Not even close when they had to go the length of the field in 40 seconds to get the come from behind win?

Four point win over Ryle and it's not even close?

It’s close to say the least.

Been watching the 'Birds since 1956 and this was one of the best in terms of excitement at the end!  I can't express adequately that this team believed it still could win even though they just went down 4 with 41 seconds left!  They deserved the W and I'll keep on watching!  Stay focused guys!  Elder is a tough nut but in the long scheme it's just another game against a quality opponent.

Yes, great catch but not a personal foul.

It is 100% a personal foul.

Re: the announcer on birds YouTube. I think I figured out they just pipe the PA guy into the video. that's what makes it so loud.

I’d love to see kids in the future doing analysis and color commentary. Could be fun!

I guess I’m confused. Was it a targeting call or late hit? I’m just curious.

Pi, I respectfully disagree with you. This is a picture of that play. Those 15 yards with under 20 seconds left was a HUGE advantage for Highlands.

It wasn’t specified as either of those, the ref just called a personal foul

The thing about a personal foul call is it’s a judgment call.  That was one of those quick bang plays and based on the official’s judgement to make a call or not. Seeing it live I didn’t think it was a personal foul. Was it a hard hit, yes, but a personal foul NO. The hit was made inbounds and the contact was in the chest area.  It doesn’t appear that there wasn’t any contact made to the head or neck area.

After seeing the video and picture I still don’t think it was a personal foul. Those extra 15 yards was huge in getting Highlands closer to scoring the TD on the final drive.

Wow!  What a game. Those boys  will be talking about that game forever. I haven’t been to a game in a while at highlands. Would love to know how the highlands fans feel about the “First Down” and opponent “3rd down” calls by the PA. Yikes.   ?. CCH fans took objection to him in the microphone up to the ball hike most of the night. I personally found it annoying but I’m just a grumpy old man.

As a birds fan…. You gotta tone that down. You can’t broadcast like that.

On livestream we had a bad angle and very distant view and my first impression was WOW, what a hit.  Now seeing this video I think it was a great defensive play.  Great reception, feet in bounds, defender makes immediate textbook shoulder contact to upper pads knocking receiver OOB.  Helmet does bounce upward to glancingly contact face ask, but not close to point of initial contact.  15 yard penalty made huge difference with little time left.

I hate complaining about personnel because I think the coaching staff is really good, but in coin flip games, maybe these things make a difference.

1. Highlands secondary was so close to the line of scrimmage a number of times and Cash was probably 0-4 throwing deep vertical routes to our receivers. Our fastest player at that position, Mac Cogswell, was on the sidelines. Mac is probably a mid 4.6 guy and would have been able to separate a little bit better as vertical routes are his game.

2. 4 down front, a true cover 4 shell on the last drive and our bendy 230 pound D1 edge rusher - Owen Pitzer - is not on the field to rush the passer...was he hurt or tired? Can't happen.
